Aaaargh!! Paul Wilson :)

Postby queen of clubs » Apr 29th, '08, 22:34

I know I post far too much in this section, but I have no life. This is like 20 seconds long and I've been wanting to do this ever since I saw the fabulous Mr R Paul Wilson perform it on his TV show The Real Hustle. So here goes...

Aaaargh! Paul Wilson! I need to flush!

Nice one :D

My only criticism would be the music sounds worryingly like Rufus Wainwright... :?

I love that effect, can they be examined?

It is Rufus doing a Beatles track Across The Universe.

Queenie could you please tell me where you learnt that effect and I'll love you forever.

I saw that on Sky a couple of days ago and have been meaning to check it out.

How technical is it?

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Check out THIS thread and it should tell you all you need to know. There are two versions. The one by R Paul Wilson called "Fan 2 C" is the one I use, which is totally examinable after the change.

Technically speaking, it's not hard to do, but if you want to do it while under close-up scrutiny then you certainly need to have very good hands.

Very nice.

Do you have a video of your nice pass? It has been highly praised and I'm very curious.

Mind you, I've checked out your other videos and I am extremely disappointed by the number of Russel Brand clips in there.

Haha! What is it about people having a go at me for everything I'm into other than cards?! When I first joined this site I got a right poking for my political convictions, then people dislike my taste in backing music for my card videos, and now poor ol' Russykins is getting it. I must be ahead of my time - my tastes are just too advanced for you mere mortals

Anyway, I'm only kidding, I don't really mind.

If you want to see a few examples of my pass then probably the best vid would be either THIS one or THIS one.

Here is the problem I have with this effect. If you are doing a gambling demonstration then this clearly does not fit in because it is clearly a magic effect. If its a magic effect then I can never fit it into a routine, because its lends itself to gambling which is not really magic.

Or perhaps the problem is all inside my head which is not out of the question. In truth I am simply not overly keen on the effect. It looks nice and the audience will gasp and then go, Wow! how did you do that" and then its over.

Perhaps its the mood I'm in.

I don't think it's all in your head because I think that too.
Yes it looks pretty and all but what purpose does it serve?

I don't know the effect so I can't be sure here but I don't think you could have this set-up in a normal deck, to do some other gambling related effects and then move onto this, which (if that is true) make it a packet trick without much of a trick.

Nice to fill a few seconds on The Real Hustle but I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable doing this in front of real people.

Well played by you though queenie.
All looks fine from here.

It's a novelty effect for sure, but I like it.

In the .pdf file R Paul Wilson explains plenty of ways it can be incorporated into performance, and that's where excellent misdirection and sleight of hand become necessary in order to set it up in real time. I'd not be confident doing this during a performance at all yet, but it's something that I'd like to incorporate when I get more experienced.

anyway, surely a half decent presentation could be playing cards against the devil, him allowing you to cheat - so you do...

show the cards - then say, but as we all know - never try and cheat the ultimate trickster...then riffle and change the cards...done..

I got this last night. It really is quite clever, what is it about the scottish these days and the magic they release? (Yeah I know that Fan-2-C is a couple of years old but still).

As for the theory that its not a great magical effect. I can understand the concerns, but sometimes I find that we can over complicate things a bit. You are making 4 cards change right in front a spec. Thats surely got to be magical.

I had a few thoughts last night of finding say four of a kind with a wild joker- A spec picks a card, you lose in it the pack and try to find four of a kind of the chosen card. You fail with four random cards, so pull out your wild joker and change all the four indifferent cards into the chosen four of a kind.

Its still very rough around the edges but uses the same principle of this shown effect by our resident female cardie.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.
