Close-up Showcase

Postby MagicBill » May 1st, '08, 14:01

Hey one and all!

Me and a fellow magician recently put on a showcase for some VIPs at a venue in Glasgow. There was a lot at stake and I was a little nervous during the opening effect (a sponge ball routine - link below!) but I think it looks pretty good.

Look forward to hearing some feedback...

(More effects from show to follow...)

Cheers!!

Hi there,

I really liked it, and I'm not really a fan of sponge balls! :D

Looking forward to the card tricks vid

I like it - I've never really seen the appeal of sponge balls, but I've only seen a few performances up close (and tbh, wasnt overly impressed) but this...was LOADS better - kept the audience on thier toes, kept the spectatr involved and laughing, and the kicker at the end was very fun to watch their faces as they laughed and clapped - well done, let us know if you post any other tricks from the night :)

I've been doing magic 17 years and never touched sponges until about a year ago.
I just didn't see their appeal or purpose, but I get some of the best reactions around when I perform for people and I now include a sponge ball effect in all my routines.
Just like that. ;)

I thought that was a really great showreel - not only magically but it was entertaining. You have a great stage presence and I look forward to seeing the others that you post.

I thought it was excellent and also look forward to future posts. I had to watch without sound, but the look on your spectator face told the tale.

And for magicians that perform for the public and don't make a valiant effort at sponge ball magic are really cheating themselves and their audiences.

Brilliant - enjoyed that a great deal. I love your first line too!

Just goes to show you don't need expensive props or explosive gimmicks to entertain a group of people; entertaining a room full of people with a few sponge balls I think is indicative of your abilities, well done sir. You may have been nervous but you controlled it very well, you seemed confident and smooth. I also look forward to seeing more of your performances.

P.S. I may have to use that idea of producing the balls from the deck - what a great way to go from cards to sponges!

it was very enjoyable to watch well done,

I've recently been playing with sponges and using similar ideas to yours, no way up to your standards but it's great to watch.

I figure I'll open with the things though saves producing them

Amen.

I don't like the fact that you start with the deck of cards and then just put it in your pocket. It would make more sense to go with this routine after a card effect. Other than that, it works great as an opener as well.

Agreed! I normally do a couple of card tricks THEN go on and do this routine - which does make more sense! During the show this wasn't possible for a couple of reasons but I don't think the audience noticed. If anything, it's a little walk up the garden path before they even know it - ok, here comes a card trick then the sponge balls start appearing!

As a big card fan I was slightly concerned when I found myself clicking on this link....

However, I really enjoyed it. I have the same reservations about sponge balls everyone else seems to have but again, this was an excellent routine.

I liked the production of the balls from the deck of cards.... Maybe you could incorporate Lennart Greens shoe from deck and then find the sponge balls in the shoe?!?!?... I know that's completely impractical but I cand help wanting to see more of the cards!

Excellent, you're the 2nd person to ever entertain me with sponge balls, and I've seen my fair share.

Well done.

First line was great. Stolen :P
EDIT: Upon reading my original post, i forgot to mention the well choreographed and charasmatic routine :)
