I feel a bit of an impostor here, seeing as the closest I've ever come to doing magic was the highly sophisticated "sticking plastic wand into stomach" trick, aged about seven. However, my boyfriend is a fairly serious hobbyist, which brings me to my question: I would love to get him Derren Brown's "The Devil's Picturebook" as a surprise, but as far as I can ascertain it's only available through the password-protected area of Derren's website. As a non-magician (somehow I don't think the wand-through-stomach thing would cut much ice), is there any way I can fulfill the requirements for getting hold of this password? Or failing that, can anyone point me in an alternative direction for getting hold of the video?

Any help would be hugely appreciated. We're talking handing-over-first-born-child levels of appreciation. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

next time your boyfriend is online and looking at magic - ask him why so many magicians have beards, and ask him to show you some...then just keep an eye out for the first name...

Failing this, feign the slightest interest in Magic (specifically mentalism to suit your needs) and ask "what is this mentalism stuff all about anyway?"

When Derren Brown first hit the states my girlfriend asked me just that and it was about 24 minutes into an explanation and various example videos that I turned around and realized her interest wasn't anywhere near that level and she was just humoring me for, oh, the last 20 minutes;)
