The case for eating only locally produced food?

I used to work at B&Q and I remember we used to get these pots in from Malaysia. I wouldn't go anywhere near them when they were being unpacked because they quite often had huge spiders lurking in the bottoms of them. They were usually dead, but not always.

I freak out at house spiders (tegenaria domestica), too. Why are they so blummin' big? Curiously, I can physically handle one when there's someone else there. Mind you, there's a tiny zebra spider (one of those that move an inch, swivel round, move an inch, and so on) that seems to have survived several winters somewhere and reappears every summer (at least I'm assuming it's the same one!). He spends his days happily jumping about and hunting in the hall.

Tarantulas are daft, though. I mean, that one's as wild as they come!

I agree. It's not necessarily the shape but the clickety-clack, skeletal speed of spiders that freaks me out. I'd much rather go near a furry, sloth-like tarantula than a huge, unpredictable house-spider.

Different topic I know but I watched the video link below it on the BBC web site of the Rangers fans beating the policeman.

Despicable behaviour that was totally unneccessary.

I watched it in the pub with a load of Scottish Celtic supporters, who were adamant that they'd never do that sort of thing...

If I found a tarantula in a bag of grapes, I'd be straight up the pet shop to get a tank for it!

Imagine telling that story to your friends:

"And I got this tarantula when I opened a bag of grapes and he just sort of crawled out..."
