You obviously don't look first. Go into the support and tips section, one of the first items is a Mentalism guide by Craig Browning. Pure effect would be way to advance for you anyway!

Craig's advice will give you at least your first six monthes of training in mentalism. Check it out!

As soon as possible, buy Corinda's classic "Thirteen Steps to Mentalism", which covers a huge amount of ground. Some of the effects look dated nowadays, but it's only a question of presentation.

I would also recommend Max Maven's "Prism" (the collection of his 1970s Colour Series books). A wide-ranging collection of very modern effects, from fairly easy to the rather harder, and a few thought-provoking comments as well.

These two are the core of my tiny mentalism library. They should be fairly widely available. (I'll have to go look for Craig's book now...)

"Pure Effect" is an amazing and thought-provoking book, but if you're looking for how-tos, spend your money elsewhere for now. Derren does include some effects, but it's essentially a book-length essay.

"Magic teaches us how to lie without guilt." --Eugene Burger
"Hi, Robbie!" "May your mischief be spread." --Derren Brown
