Derren Brown Devil's Picture book (a question or two)

Postby oscarno » May 23rd, '08, 18:24

Now this'll sound ludicrous, but I've finally managed to get grips with the 3 Card Routine, and I was performing it the other day to guests, and I had just finished the trick. Now of course they were freaked out, as one should be with such an awesome effect, but it soon occured to me that I had to do something with the deck. Not meaning to give too much away, one of them said "Where did the deck go?"

In the end I had an awkward solution which I wont go into detail, but it happens that this would rarely work - especially not in a restaurant. (It included waiting for them to leave  ),

Any suggestions as to how to finish it off in that respect? cheers :)

If you have L****d the deck, onto the table cloth, whilst the final reveal sinks in, it only takes a second to gather them, if that.

Everytime their attention is misdirected, pat them with on hand, just neatening up the pile so you can easily collect them later. Make sure they don't get worried about "suspicious" hand movements around your crotch though!

It's been a while since I watched it, but don't you vanish the deck and then let them take their three cards out of the box? If so, why not just keep hold of the box and as they turn them over casually put the deck back in (below table level obviously).

True - never thought of it being so easy... Now that we're on the topic though, and it's obvious that some of us have the Devil's Picturebook, I cant find anywhere to get "fake rose petals" that he mentioned were better to use in Zamiel's Rose.

(Sorry I only recently discovered the value of this forum and have plenty of things to discuss that I havent understood over the years - most of them I cant discuss until I get access to the forbidden area... We've all been here once  )

Cheers :D

I don't have the Devil's Picturebook (yet), so if there's something tricksy about the rose petals you need, forgive me...

But if all you want is yer basic petal, you could always buy some silk flowers and disassemble them.

You could take a leaf (no pun intended) from us Yorkshire folk and simply buy enough flowers to get the amount of petals you'd like to perform this trick with a couple of extras then simply collect them back p once performed and pocket them for the next time.

Not the perfect solution but it'd a least get you on your way with practicing the effect for now while you source a cheap enough method of having them as give aways

Yeah I guess... Just it's more charming (I wouldve thought) if you just left the petals on the table afterwards. But it's not vital I guess :D Or I could just wait for the shop to open :(
