Mentalism Night

Postby bananafish » May 15th, '08, 18:18

In case anyone is interested, Monday 19th May is Mentalism Night at the Ipswich Magical Society.

There are several performers lined up, so if you are in the area and would like an evenings free entertainment, then feel free to pop along.

We will be adjourning to the pub afterwards - so we an all chat about what we have seen.

So where are we?

For the pub I imagine 18

Not sure if the meeting has an age limit - I'm performing there though so if my hideous visage frightens you, no under 21s

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I was the compere for the evening and we enjoyed 6 acts altogether.

We started the evening with a duo Keith and his Mystic Marge medium who did some nice mind reading, book test, and other routines that were highly entertaining.

TM's Ecko Zero performed a nice version of Free Will using large fruit cards and the did some excellent pseudo psychometry, all of which went down well with our members.

Alex Marsh gave us a nice effect that combined his background in drama with mentalism, where he divined the name, age, and gender of a long lost friend of a participant.

Michael Fitch did a great Larry Becker watch and card routine, where the time stopped at a number, at which the chosen card was found in the deck, which also matched the name of the card etched into the watch case. Alongside this, Michael had a participant (Ecko's other half) write down something memorable from her childhood. Michael got a seriously eerie hit that was not even written down (spooked us all out, I can tell you).

Michael was followed by Andy Fisher who did an amazingly well-scripted set with a stroop test, chair routine, and a version of dead zone that drew on Andy's previous career as a body guard. The set ended with a scroll in a sealed tupperware in a teddy bear accurately predicting the outcome of every effect, including the name of the participant in the dead zone routines....jaws could be heard dropping.

Yours truly finished the evening with a psychic chess routine, a psychometry routine using coloured cats-eye crystals, and Luna...

We are graced with many mentalists in our local society...so stay tuned!!!

Over to you Banana... 8)
