Just picked up one of these for the first time and am finding it hard to handle.
I can really easily seperate the cards from each other so using the pack is difficult as a few card seem to show their backs if I spread them.
If I ribbon spread them on a table again quite a few cards are revealed.
Could it be that I've just picked up a dodgy deck or is it a question of pressure upon the cards.
Thanks for looking

I think you just have to put more pressure on the cards, that way they don't separate as easily.

The less pressure you apply the more the cards will slide off one another.

Thats how my deck works, dont know if yours is any different.

Not from my expeirence. The less pressure you put on them the less they reveal. Just barely spread through the cards in your hand. The roughing powder should keep the cards together so you shouldn't need to worry about them.

If you lick the thumb of the hand you push off cards from and dampen its fingertips with it, you can use a more heavily treated deck that won't flash and also have better control over the action involved to reveal the down turned card.

Maybe I didn't make my question clear, reading again it's a little ambiguous I guess.
Basically it's as if there isnt enough roughing fluid on the cards, the only way I can get a decent spread is to fan the pack in one hand but then seperating the one card becomes a problem.
Don't know if it's of any help to know but they are Bicycle cards with instruction by Daryl.
Thanks again

Your pack is fine. You don't need to fan it (at least I don't). Ok here is what you do. Put the deck in your left hand in Mec****c's grip then with your right hand thumb, thumb through the cards putting the cards you don't need in your right hand. Add as little pressure as you can. Then when you get to the "certain card" add pressure and seperate the cards.

I would have thought that fanning an ID, as opposed to runing it from hand to hand, would be quite a difficult move. I agree with goodismyname about the light touch, but not too light. Perhaps the cards need re-roughening.

I rough my own cards and a good test to see if they are roughed enough is to do a over hand shuffle of the deck. Don't do it fast or too vigorus but, just deliberate enough so that the cards will slide off the top of the deck and not seperate. If they need more roughing try using clear flat matte spray. Take some of your old cards to practise on before you try it on one of your expensive decks.

Your deck is fine. It's a knack keep playing with it, spread the cards from one hand to the other, I wouldn't recomend fanning the deck. Your best bet is to keep it off the table when performing, it really is more effective when done in the hands and that way you can do it anywhere. Experiment with the amount of pressure you put on the cards during the spread.

Keep on practicing.

People are assuring you that your deck is fine, but it might not be. I've had a really terrible ID in the past and I thought it was just a knack I needed to learn, then I bought another one from a different supplier and it was excellent.

It could be that you just need more practice and to find out a technique that suits you best, but there's a fair possibility it also might just be a poor deck.

Also, you talked about spreading them on the table - you shouldn't do that. A ribbon spread in the hands is the way to go.

There is that possiblity, and I do apologize for my previous post. I come from the magic dealer world where 98% of the time when somebody has a problem it is the prop that is blamed, and 97% of the time is is user error. But there are times when it is the prop. Take it back where you got it and get some help. Or find a local magician and have them take a look if possible.

if youve experimented with different pressures and find it still a problem, either get the deck replaced or put some more rough on them (i recommend the former if youve not done this before).

ive also found that if done well, it shouldnt be a problem to do a relaxed moderate- paced overhand shuffle or ant 2-handed type fans with the deck.
