Extractor - Rob Bromley & Peter Nardi

Postby russpie » Apr 24th, '08, 19:50

Just wondered if anyone had used this & had any thoughts. At first I looked at the performance videos & was distracted by the obviously setup situation. I always think 'real life' performances work much better in an ad rather than the comedy gasping & "that's my actual signed card, good Lord" reactions.

However, after reviewing them a month later the actual effects which are possible seem very nice. It's priced at around £50 & the effects are basically;

Playing card signed, returned to box & then shown in the performers trouser pocket. There are numerous variations such as the card appears from the pocket in a different coloured closed deck overturned in new deck order & the card is in it's new deck ordered place.

I've seen this in real life and it's your standard Bromley stuff, very nicely made but because of that quite pricey. Each of these things takes a few hours to make by hand so you can see why they cost so much, but as a utility the Extractor is pretty handy. The card to pocket is a real fooler actually and most magicians instantly suspect chutes in your jacket and all sorts except the actual explanaton.

How robust is the gimmick? Given ordinary wear and tear how long would you expect it to last?

Extractor

This looks very good and and I suppose I am not alone in being impressed , but it seems a bit pricey.
Has anyone done a review on it yet? The demo shows three example of its use is all done as one effect or is there 3 seperate ones?

Soren, if it's treated with care (not with kid gloves but just as you would any item you want to keep in good condition) it should last as long as any other cardboard box.

Pudcat, it's a utility device rather than a one trick pony so all the effects you see on the demo are ideas as to how it could be used. There's no definitive single effect for it as such.

I saw Peter Nardi demo this in the shop yesterday.

I was impressed, but as I know nothing that's not difficult!

Ordered it yesterday, it arrived today, just finished watching the 2 hour dvd. The gimmick is amazingly simple but so effective. It does everything that the trailer promises & there are so many effects possible, they must cover ten at least on the dvd. It can be used as an extra convincer for many routines eg card to wallet/envelope & can be used as a training aid for a certain sleight in performance. It's up there with the ID for me & for this reason the less people using it the better, please leave it for my own audiences.

I agree - a great looking effect. I have been wanting to do a signed card to pocket for a while now, but sadly im afraid I am one of the deluded ilk who uses that tired old excuse of "my hands are too small to p**m a card"

This utility devices seems to apparantly despense with that formality....just one question though.....can I perform this effect in a T-SHIRT? (If you know what Im getting at here?)

No details that give anything away obviously, just a simple yes or no will suffice. Many thanks for your time.

You can perform this with NO shirt if you wanted to. You can put the cards in a trouser pocket or even someone elses jacket pocket & still be able to produce their signed card from your pocket, wallet, sealed envelope or shoe. I was just watching the dvd again today & found another gem, A card & word are freely (no force) chosen & then shown to have been predicted in your wallet.

Brilliant.
