Bargain - Jonathan Creek

Series 1-4 available from Play for a mere £29. Considering the subject matter, I can't believe I've only ever watched a couple of episodes. Mine is on order now. :D

That's very kind of you...

Jonathan Creek is really good. I watched the lot back to back on DVD over a few weeks and there's not a bad one in the bunch. Well worth it. I wish they'd make some more.

I recall that the makers of Jonathan Creek were at one stage asking around for magical techniques / effects on which to base further episodes but did not get much back. They should have asked here

Yes, you can't beat a good locked room mystery. Bring back Jonathan Creek I say, except possiblity have him transported back to Victorian London so we can have atmospheric pea soup fog and Big Ben bonging at midnight. Oh hang on. That's Sherlock Holmes.

A 1920's version would be cool (as I believe you teenagers say).

Woo! That is such good news! The one off episode that is.
Not that the dvds aren't. But I don't think i'll be picking them up just yet. I have so many dvds to watch already that I have picked up.

Looking forward to the Christmas special!

Although, in my opinion, the show did go severely downhill when Caroline Quentin left and the new sidekick -- whose name I can't recall -- came in.

The original storylines were straight detective mysteries (e.g. locked-room murders) solved by knowledge of magic-trick principles (e.g. misdirection). The newer ones leaned very heavily toward pseudo-mystical stuff followed by a debunking-type explanation. Being a fan of straight mysteries, I stopped watching about halfway through the first "mystical" series.

I think that will be one of the Sawalha sisters.

Yes, the one who was the daughter Saffy in Absolutely Fabulous. She had grown a bit by JC though.
