DERREN BROWN - ESP Cards

Postby TylerMason » Jun 5th, '08, 15:10

I have recently purchased "Something Wicked This Way Comes" on DVD after very much enjoying the televised perfomance I saw last year.

I was pleased to see the DVD contains some bonus features, including some backstage footage, and 2 deleted scenes. One of these scenes is an ESP card routine which I was hoping someone might know more about.

I have been wanting to incorporate some more mentalism into my card routines for a while now, and besides using my regular decks, the menatlism effects I perform seem like they could be much more theatrically enhanced if I were to use ESP cards every now and again.

Sometimes, the magnitude of a card mentalism effect seems to be amplified in a spectators mind if it's presented to them using something they can relate to. They automatically recognise them as being "those psychic cards!"....or "Oh yeah, I've seen those cards from that scene in 'Ghostbusters' etc, etc.

Either way, there are many ESP decks available, and self working books dedicated for the use with ESP cards, but the one im intrested in is the version presented by Derren Brown in Something Wicked this Way comes.

If anyone else has the DVD, and has watched the deleted scene im refering to, could you point me in the direction of which book to buy, or recommend any other especially 'clean' looking ESP dealing / matching prediction effects that might be similar to Derren's.

Many thanks.

That's a great DVD. I also got it recently and really liked the ESP effect in the bonus section. I don't about the exact version that Derren performs, but there is a very similar version on David Britland's website; I think it's called Zennerism. I've been performing it since and it's a very clean, easy-to-do effect.

I recommend the 'Submodalities' DVD, in particular the 'Jazz Mentalism' effect.

I've created my own ESP effect using methods Paul Brook teaches in his book 'The Gift'

Cheers for the help guys, some useful tricks to look into there. I've already read up a little on Zennerism - and it seems ideal for the kind of effect I wish to create. Well recommended.

Im also looking forward to receiving my copy of Submodalities soon - the material on there seems to be very direct and im sure will be a great addition to my card mentalism.

Thanks again.
Tyler.

Submodalities is great, but it's intended to be an add-on to the Beyond ESP 2 deck.

Some of the effects on Submodalities can be done with any ESP deck, but some require the use of Beyond ESP (or at least some other marked deck).

I can recommend Beyond ESP 2. The cards are nicely made, and you get two decks (black and red) for the price, as well as eight effects (all of which are demoed on the Submodalities DVD).

Zennerism is possibly my favourite ESP effect of all time. As for Submodalities, I shall be ordering it come pay day.... :D
