the obligatory intro.

My name is Doug and I'm a mentalist (sounds like an AA meeting doesn't it? )

I perform a mental only act framed as psychology and suggestion and around 60% of the act is exactly that (though not 60% the audience is led to believe).

Most of my work is corporate or private parties though I have three shows coming up at The Magic Cavern in August ( see www.falseimpressions.com for details).

I hope I can offer some advice and learn from you all.

Whoa! I hear you guys tralk about magic shows a lot. Are there lots of magicians in the UK?

Good question - I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried to count them! There are probably hundreds of working professionals but most of them work in small clubs, theatres, holiday villages etc they'll probably never be well known but they're in constant work. After that there are certainly thousands of amateurs or part time magicians so I reckon we are well served for magic one way or another.

One of the best indications is The World's Largest Magic Convention/Blackpool Magicians' Club 53rd Annual Convention which is held in Blackpool (North West of the UK) and the next one is from February 25th to 27th 2005 - have a look at www.blackpoolmagic.com for details. It's the UK biggie and tends to attract a huge gathering of assorted Magi. Of course there are several other gatherings worthy of note so keep an eye on this Forum for details - check out the Events section from time to time!
