Homemade Pay Envelopes

Postby Replicant » Jun 16th, '08, 17:22

Some of you will be aware of my recent difficulties in finding suitable pay envelopes in the UK (small quantities, say, less than fifty). I did manage to find some for sale on Mark Leveridge's website and promptly purchased some; however, while they are very nice and suitable for most of what I have in mind, they are not suitable for one particular effect because they are slightly transparent. So I set about making my own.

I found a sheet of card we had lying around the house and made a sample using one of Mark's envelopes as a template. Apart from the fact that the card I used was way too thick (that's why the edges are so rough), it worked a treat and only took a few minutes of work with a pencil, ruler, Pritt stick and a pair of scissors. I reckon I can get at least a dozen envelopes from one sheet of card, although I am going to buy some thinner card. I wasn't going to use black card, but having made a sample, I quite like the look of it in black.

So anyone who is in a similar situation to me - make your own! For small quantities, it's cheaper and you can have whatever colour envelopes you want.

I started thinking about it and possibly will. It looks straightforward and that's my type of thing. :D

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Nice work, Replicant. I've been making my own black envelopes for a while, as well. I recently found a company that does sell black coin envelopes, but only in one size.

Great work!

Yeah, I'm in proper Blue Peter mode at the moment. (I'm afraid this won't mean much to our US friends). I'm off to the arts and crafts shop after work to get some thin black card. :D
