Who've you met?

Postby Lenoir » Jun 21st, '08, 18:02

What famous, professional and exciting magicans have you all had the pleasure to meet?

Meetings at conventions don't count!

I personally have met Derren Brown, had a 5 minute chat after our cups of coffee got mixed up.

Met R P Wilson in Davenports a year back, and AGAIN today in International Magic! Had a discussion about his/my Martini routine and gave me some nice advice!

Hmmm :? Let me put it this way, I basically lived at the Magic Castle from the fall of 1982 to the summer of 1989... I'm certain you can imagine how many of the gang I got to know just from that. Add in tech work while living in Las Vegas from 1990 to 96 (including my work with Creative Illusions Mfg.) and of course, general association with the professionals of the biz since the late 1960s and early 70s...

As to those who I not only got to know but managed to garner special friendships with... the list is outrageously long but is topped off with Harry Blackstone, Jr; Peter Pit; Peter Reveen; and Shimada. Then again, Irene Larsen and I have birthday's just a day or two apart from one another e.g. lots of parties in mid-September either at the Castle or their house (the old Thayer studio) which would bring in the who's who of the industry including those considered living legends (in the day) like Channing Pollock, Leon Mandrake, Moyo Miller, Carl Balentine, etc. (even non-Magicians like Bob Barker and Betty White).

I'll just leave it at that...

there are those around here whose jealousy suggests that I'm just name dropping and the whole of my life is but "myth"

The knowledge and content you display in your posts is enough alone to rip that theory to shreds.

On a visit to Davenports about ten years ago, I walked in and Derren Brown was standing there, chatting to the staff. I didn't speak to him because I was too scared.

On another occasion, and also at Davenports, I saw Gary Barlow. Apparently, he is a keen amateur magician (as opposed to an ambivalent amatuer magician, haha). At least he was back then, anyway. Didn't speak to him, either, because I wasn't that fussed to be honest.

EDIT: I've just noticed the title of your thread and I've not met either of them, so perhaps I needn't have bothered posting. Another five minutes of my life, wasted.

Ian Rowland, Michael Ammar, Aldo Colombini, Kostya Kimlat, Geoffrery Durham, Pete Firman, Jon Archer, Justin Lee-Collins, Richard Sanders, Jay Sankey, Paul Wilson, David Stone, Greg Wilson, Ali Bongo and the legenadary, Kenn Dodd.

And those are the people I haven't shown magic to.

Paul Merton, Mike McShane, Keira Knightley, Emma Watson, Alan Rickman, Dan Radcliffe, Boris Johnson, Ant & Dec, Orlando Bloom, Anne Robinson, Magnus Magusson, Alan Davies, James McEvoy and the Mayor of Pocklington to name but a few.

Not that I'm name dropping or anything - *clunk*

I've found him a quite likable guy actually. My most amazing memory of him was a call from out of the blue on Christmas Day of all times, just to speak with my step-daughter about her health condition and the possibility of his sponsoring her over to the UK for some tests... seems he was working on some legit medical research associated with the peculiar skin/tissue disease she has been plagued by over the years (common to women with Mediterranean ancestry but still seen as being "rare").

DAVID COPPERFIELD!

After his show in Hamilton and in Toronto in January for my birthday, and 2 months ago.

I waited so long until he came to a city near me.
Got autographs, seen his shows.
awesome time.

I have met just about everybody. However I rather think it would be more accurate to say that they met me. I do think they were quite privileged to do so.
