Best/Worst Online Magic Shops

Postby Samagik » Jul 14th, '04, 12:47

Hi i thought it would be a good idea if we built up a character refernce of the best/ worst magic sites on the internet. Maybe you have had a particularly bad experience with a company or had to wait 6 months for your delivery......Or maybe there was no faults.....and your order arrived next day!

I have been shopping with this company ever since it started on the web in 99, when they used to be called Abrakazam. My first trick from them was the vanishing hankerchief, which then I had to wait about a week and a 1/2 for. Since then the shop has only got better (in my opinion). Now my order arrives in no more than 2 working days! The prices are great aswell with most tricks cheaper than other companie. In my opinion...one of the best sites on the web....

Sam, this is a good idea. Maybe you could do a review of your favourite shop and base it around a modified version of the reviews template so that includes all the information.

I really dislike emagictricks. I bought fire cards from them. First of all it didnt have a flint so I sent it back. They sent it back again and then it wouldnt work because it was so stiff and then they said they'd make a refund so I sent it back and they didn't send the money back so I called them and they didn't even remember who I was! I explained and then they told me that they recieved it in two pieces so I told them that I sent it back how I got it and it probably fell apart in the post because it was so rubbish. I've just finally got the refund after tons of nagging.

sarah sorry for your problems and i don't speek for e-magictricks but this sort of thing would not have happened when lawrence was in charge.
it is my understanding that they have gone from a shop were most things were preinspected to a warehouse dispatch type of system and the one tp one personal service has suffered for it as it inevitably does after such a large expansion.
we hope they will spend more time on customer services after there period of changeover.

i recomend loonybin.co.uk for a personal service with a fair range of tricks and will get items in if they can if you have a specific trick in mind, they are still eager for feadback and have tasken a lot i have said on board which is always a bonus.
they have even sent me stuff on aproval prior to payment so i could do a gig at short notice when they didn't even know me well you can't get a better endorsmant from a company than that.

Both good sites, some of the prices of Penguin are astonishing, both have free delivery and both good service.

I must admit, I've never had any trouble with any magic site I've used. I think they all realise that they basically stock the same effects etc (I know that's a bit of a generalisation, but you know what I mean), so they can only distinguish themselves from each other with special postage rates and maybe neat little touches with customer service...

I'd assume that any errors or upsets are normally one-offs at any online magic store.

Now just you wait and see my next order not be delivered for three weeks and my Credit Card overcharged...

It's good to scout around for bargains and this website is useful for that...
http://www.bargainmagic.co.uk/

I also use these two sites because they have an excellent range of different packs of playing cards...
http://www.cards4magic.co.uk/

...And this one because they always seem to have a lot of exclusive products...

online magic stores

Postby puppet man » Aug 11th, '04, 16:56

http://www.aquarius-magic.com/

I personally recomend this one. Very reasonably priced when compared, and always willing to help wherever they can.

one example: I had been toying with the idea of getting a clatterbox. Unable to locate one one the Aquarius site I searched the net, found lots of prices from £40 to £60. I emailed Aquarius and they got me one for £24.95!!!
