I'm form Darkest Cheshire, but I appreciate skill when I see it. Gentlemen, I give you Archie Gemmell scoring for Scotland against Holland in the 1978 World Cup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1axsnMR ... re=related It's the goal namechecked in Trainspotting. Pure skill, so it is.

NBA: small court, can't possibly host as many people as a baseball stadium
NFL: Only 16 games per season, most teams sold out every week
NHL: Outside Canada definitely the 'second-division' sport
MLS: Likewise, and again not many games per season

Don't get me wrong, I really quite like baseball.

Very few basketball teams sell out, even with the smaller stadium.

Of course NFL sells out... you can only see you tem play home 8 times a year.

Bottom line, none of the other sports you mention, and I add NASCAR to the list, could capture the public's imagination for such a long time with such remarkable regularity.

Its Football.. NOT soccer.. Never will be soccer.. thank God its NOT soccer.. its FOOTBALL!!

ok.. according to fairly new rules.. an injured player must come off the field before returning. He can refuse the stretcher ( if he can walk off ) but must come off before returning..

Now.. any other questions about FOOTBALL??

a little knowledge is dangerous old chap... Baseball's best of 7 Championship was called the World's Series because it was originally sponsored by the World Newspaper. The name subsequently "stuck" because the World's best players now participate in the league, there is no question.

The actual "World Cup" of Baseball... The World Baseball Classic, takes place every 4 years and will next be held in 2009. National teams of the 24 qualifying nations will participate, the current Champion is Japan.

I like "soccer" (yes ID, Football), I also like NFL although I think soccer is a better sport. I loath basketball. Awfully repetitious. We have been "tricked" to believe a 6' 10" guy (who when his hands are in the air is 9' 6") jumping 6" of the ground to "stuff" a ball into a stationery hoop from point blank range is skillful... what a joke.

Oh, and as an Aussie, I also like cricket... it is my birth right since we are so darn good at it!

I'm sure you all saw it today but here's what Google wrote,
Football is a mistake. It combines the two worst elements of British life. Violence and committee meetings.
