I need advice

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Jul 6th, '08, 22:26

I'm going to Boston MA at the end of August. Has anyone been there or lived there that could advise some fun places to see for someone who's never been? Thanks!

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I spent a few days there at the end of the 1990's so things may have changed but the Boston Tea Party exhibits and lectures are well worth doing if only to realise that the stuff they taught us in UK schools wasn't exactly correct, the colonists had a valid point of view! Also the Bull & Finch pub - home of Cheers. It's nothing like the TV show on the inside but it's fun!

I thought of going to the Boston Tea Party exibits. I wanted a second opinion though. :D

There are plenty of great places to see in Boston! It's a great city to wander around. It's not too big, which is nice.

Here's a few things you can do:

Paul Revere's House
Bunker Hill Monument
Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum
Old North Church (where the 2 lanterns were hung)
Faneuil Hall Marketplace
USS Constitution (Old Ironsides)

One of my favorite things to do was to walk the Freedom Trail - which is a marked trail that goes through Boston, running through and past major locations involved in the Revolution. There are a few companies that offer walking (and I believe ride-on, as well) tours. One I know of is called Boston By Foot. It's a really cool tour - and if you don't feel like doing it, you can find the line on the street and just start walking! :D

And, of course, no visit to Boston would be complete (for a magician) without a trip to Hank Lee's Magic Factory! They moved locations a year or so ago, a bit further north of downtown Boston - but still close. Great people in there, so I would highly recommend a visit if you have the time.

If you need some tips or ideas - pm me. I can give you some more info.

I had planned for Bunker Hill and Paul Revere house and of course I planned on going to Hank Lee's. I recently learned that Max Maven drew the cartoon of Hank Lee.

The Bunker Hill monument is fun... Until you get down. My knees got all wobbly and I had to sit down for a couple minutes because I would have collapsed. Honestly I'm in good shape, and I'm a rock climber, so I climb a lot. No one else seemed to have trouble with it though.
