Only you can answer that - they are two totally different things.

One is a comedy mentalism routine, the other isn't.

As Totally Mental said, one is an effect one is a utility device. You also don't say anything about the sort of magic you do or who you do it to, so that makes it a very difficultquestion to answer.

Also - it's not really a review request. Is it?

Apart from that...

(that sounded a bit rude of me - sorry - we still love you :) )

Here's a review thread on the Extractor http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic24870.php which you might find useful. I couldn't find one for Collard, doesn't mean there isn't one!

As Totally Mental and Bananafish have said, it depends on your interests. I'm into cards at the moment and so recently bought an Extractor, which I'm very pleased with. But you might be into comedy mentalism.

They belong to very different environments too.

Collard is a performance piece. I'm sure it can be done close-up and walkaround, but the premise behind it, and the narrative hook would be wasted. I don't have Collard, but have seen it in action as part of the Educating Archer DVD. It's a lovely handling of the Medallion effect - technically as well as presentationally - but I'd definitely allocate it to a stand-up stage or parlour act, rather than strolling close-up.

Extractor, however, is a utility device which I would use in a less formal environment, doing close-up magic. It's not a routine in itself, but can be used to add a kicker to any number of existing card routines.

Incidentally, am I the only one that thinks Daryl should have got more than just a passing mention on the instructional DVD for Extrator??

Guys,

Thanks for all your replies. I did post a more detailed question on one of the other forums. It was just the case that i perform quite a varied set of tricks & felt that collard would fit in quite well. On the other hand i have heard such great things about Extractor & again could fit this into my routines. I made a very hard decision & I have just ordered Extractor so very excited, won't be sleeping tonight.........very sad sorry.

Also sorry for posting on the wrong forum - I'm new to the site but will get myself up & running & post some good reviews on any tricks that i acquire.

Thanks for all your help

Thanks for mentioning that ... I was wondering if Extractor was
based on Daryl's effect.

PC Wells

It seems to me you are getting Extractor mixed up with The Riser Deck which is similar to Daryl's Ultimate Ambition.

2 totally diffent animals Riser Deck & The Extractor.

Cheers

Although the Extractor was born out of the Riser Deck (if I'm right in thinking) as mentioned in the dvd.

Just received my extractor today. Brilliant. Although I'm unable to fully practise as I don't have a bicycle pack of cards, I'm able to watch the DVD thoroughly and its a wonderful utility which has so many possibilities. This can be used as a magic trick and also in a mentalist act!
For instance, pick a card, put it back in the deck. Deck is sealed and put in pocket. Then its revealed that you put a card in a sealed envelope way before the performance, and you hypnotized the spectator to pick a card which is in that envelope.

You pull out the sealed envelope rip it open, and what do you know, its the same card which he picked!

Ordered a pack of red and blue Bicycle cards, so I can perform a variety of tricks with it! Can't wait!
