Question on magnet strength, PK rings and Enlightenment ....

Postby moonbeam » Jul 15th, '08, 23:56

I have a magnet (approx size 25mm x 25mm x 15mm) and it is a N50.

I'm using this for Enlightenment (by Ben Harris) and I was wondering if it's possible to get a smaller, yet just as powerful, magnet ??
I know nothing about magnets, so basically I'm asking, "if I get a smaller N50 magnet, will it do the same job as the larger size one?"

I was also wondering if it's possible to get a PK ring with a strength of N50 and will it do the same job as a "normal" N50 magnet ??

If anyone has Enlightenment and uses a different magnet, or uses a PK ring, etc .... feel free to PM me  .

Answers on a postcard to: "I'll name that magnet in three ...."

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I have no magical experience with magnets, Moonbeam. But I can tell you that (mass for mass) you won't get stronger than N50, which if I remember rightly is the practical limit at the moment. You can get a bigger magnet of course, and this will increase the net strength, but the strength per unit mass will remain the same.
I suppose it's a case of trial and error, or delving into the dark art of electromagnetism*.

*zzzztt, boom.
