Wonder Lock

Postby Tony Hyams » Aug 8th, '04, 10:01

The Effect
A banknote, or even a large value cheque, is securely locked into a clear plastic frame with WONDERLOCK. The lock will only open with one of the five keys supplied. This can be demonstrated before snapping the lock shut if required. The keys are handed out to random audience members, keeping any key back for the performer. The keys are then tried in the lock by the audience members with keys. AT ANY TIME the key kept back for the performer can be exchanged. Even so, after all the audience’s keys have been tried and will not open the lock, the performer’s key WILL OPEN IT!

Review
This is a great opening trick because it gets peoples attention straight away as there is money involved. I received this trick yesterday and was performing it at work about an hour later. I could not find any faults with this trick and I would recommend it to anyone who has £40 burning in their pocket. Definitely a trick I will be keeping in my routine :D

Overall
A classic in magic 10/10

Indeed, this is a very good effect. You can use it as a magic effect or even as a mentalisic influence type thing.

I think anyone buying this will be impressed with thing that makes it work. It's worth stressing that you do not need to touch (or go within a foot of) the lock or keys at any time; apart from, possibly, at the start when demonstrating that one key opens the lock (this could be ommitted). With the last person (two keys left) you can ask them to pick up both keys, one in each hand, and say that they are holding the correct key. Then ask them to drop one key and try the other. The dropped key (yours by default) will be the one that opens the lock.

As I'm thinking of purchasing this, can I just ask if there are any "funny moves" when you finally open the lock with your key? I had a similar (but very very cheap) effect years ago which involved the key turning twice in the lock rather than once, so to anyone watching closely it was a bit of a giveaway!

Any advice would be gratefully received - thanks!

Not really a "funny move", but..... ahem, a move.
I prefer SupaLock by the same manufcturer: Mick Hanzlik.
NO moves at all! But this is another effect....
