Custom IDs?

Can anyone help me locate a dealer that can sell me a quality ID on blue Tally Ho circle backs?

Make one yourself. It's very simple indeed to get it exactly how you like it.

I know, Tomo. People say that. But you have no idea how bad I am at any sort of DIY. I can't fix anthing and I can't cook. I could f**k up a cup of coffee.

If there are no magic dealers who do them on Tally Hos then how about a member of this forum who makes their own? Let's haggle ;)

Or you could stop being a Tally Ho snob and just use Bikes like the rest of us :P

I don't want to offer anything on his behalf but Lawrence is a dab hand with the r****ing s***y... Perhaps if you asked nicely you could send him a can of the stuff with a deck of Tallys - he could put it together, then hand it over at one of the Leeds meet-ups in exchange for a pint or two...? He might even do you a special deal on an I.L.C. deck...

I'd offer myself but I won't be getting to any until November!

I am thinking that would be too much work if she has the can on hand. I haven't created one myself but I have experience with spray mount and the sort. I have seen a nice tutorial video for this specific application though and I have to say it looks very easy DIY-er or not. Spread the cards down on newspaper, spray evenly 1-3 feet away, let dry and voila!

If you wished to join us one week, Kate, I could sort that out for you; or teach you how to do it, it really is very easy.

Surely the I.L.C Deck would have to be changed were The Queen to have one, although could still be called I.L.C

 How do you feed yourself?

It really is dead easy. Practice on an old deck and use any failures for other things - you literally can't muck it up. Just lay out the cards in 4 lines on newspaper, shake the can vigorously, hold it about two feet above the cards, begin spraying off to the left of a line, briskly move the can across the line, and stop spraying after you're past the other end - like a robot spraying a car. It'll seem like you've left very little on the cards at all. Leave them to dry for about an hour, assemble the deck and try it. If it's too slippery, repeat until it's just right. Whatever you do, don't just squirt the fluid about randomly like fly spray.

Tomo, have you had any experience of using the bottled fluid rather than the spray? Due to some bloody EEC safety ruling it's now all but impossible to get hold of the "special stuff" in it's non-magically-rebranded form (although seemingly magic shops are still allowed to sell it... :? ), but the fluid is still readily available. I was thinking I might give it a go. I'm thinking just put a tiny bit on a sponge or something, give it a good wipe? (This is destined for the innuendo bingo thread...!)

Interestingly, eBay has someone selling r.f, but no preview picture is given and it's marked as an "adult item"...?! I thought the idea was usually to decrease friction in that sort of industry?!

I've always used Humbrol Matt Spray Varnish. It's seriously hard wearing. My current deck is over a year old and I'm so comfortable with it I use it for practice and performance.

I should maybe look at making one myself then because my ID has had minimal use, and now it barely works. I have to push real hard to get the desired effect and I don't think I've just suddenly become poor at it. The cards definitely seem... slippier

I regularly make IDs from novelty decks - Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Scottish Tartans...

I just think that no self-respecting magician would take the time to gaff something so tacky, so it puts it above suspicion.

And it gives you something to say other than simple exposition. :)

Queenie

If you want to post me a deck that you want ID'd (I haven't got any Tally's at the moment) then I'll treat it and send it back to you.

PM me if you're interested as I've got a few cans of the 'stuff' in the garage as I always make my own ID's.

I used Humbrol Matt Cote. U can still get it in model shops and I saw one for sale on ebay. I tried it as I couldn't get the matt varnish spray to work for some reason? I got a thin paint brush and just spread a thin layer on the cards. Works an absolute charm and I'm a retard at all things DIY :D
