Hi all!

Hey everyone. Im nineteen and been interested in and practicing magic on and off since I was twelve years old. I've learnt a lot in that time and recently become more interested in the mentalism side of magic. I've been performing a basic mind reading number routine recently using a vernet thumb writer (boon type). I'm sure you know what I'm talking about (it involves a notepad, and asking the spectator what number they chose after you ''apparently'' wrote a prediction down).

I was wondering if there are any ways or tricks out there which allow you to perform the same kind of mind reading act but the other way round. Like maybe with the effect of the spectator writing a prediction number down instead of me and me divining it or appearing to read her mind and seemingly read her mind without the use of a notepad on my part?

The reason I asked is because people have recently started to ask me to do exactly that, and I've had to make up numerous excuses to get out of it. Some of them even worked out the theory that I wrote their chosen number down after they had told me what number they chose! :|

Any ideas/help will be greatly appreciated! :)

Regards
Jwardmagic :D :D

The realms of mentalism will certainly solve this problem for you!

Welcome to TalkMagic, I shall PM you in a bit.

Hiya and welcome to Tm.

There are quite a few ways to do what you're asking, grab yourself a copy of Karl Fulves Self Working Mental Magic for some ideas or if you're feelking a little more adventurous, Annemanns Parctical Mental Effects might be worth a browse.

Im looking for an effect which doesnt involve any kind of ''peek'' or a fake notepad. Do these books describe such methods?

Artful of Mentalism would work pretty well if you up to buying it. I think there is a method it is a peek but a pretty good one havn't tried it but it sounds excellent because nothing is gimmicked really. Hope that helps and welcome a board. read post practice three keys to success.
