Wow, what's "far away magic"?, I'm guessing it's the opposite of close up.

Lady of Mystery wrote:An interesting point Carlos mentioned there, do you or don't you ask if they want to see magic?

I always do because I feel it's polite to do so and as Mark Leveridge says in one of his books, the apecs might have had some bad news or something might have happened with them recently and it's be insensitive to go forcing magic on them. Asking them gives them the chance to say 'no thanks'.

I agree with what you're saying there, but I think if you approach with a big friendly smile, and start off with a joke, then the specs know immediately you're there for their entertainment and not a harbinger of doom!

I think the main thing is to be flexible; some events would dictate that you need to introduce yourself formally, others you may be able to bound up and get straight into it, I think it's all about knowing your audience!

If they are looking daggers at me as I walk towards them I'll just say good evening and walk past. and I'll always try and avoid couples on their own at a table, for all I know they may be in the process of discussing their impending divorce..

Also I think after the first couple of groups/tables your intro is practically irrelevant from an introduction point of view anyway, as people know exactly what you're doing and are almost waiting for their turn!

Right, i see, so you are Laurel and Hardy impersonators that perform magic at tables?

I LOVE IT!, that's blown my mind.

I always ask. I'd rather ask than sit in silence while some old sargeant major chooses a card (any card) through gritted teeth.
