Just a thought - joke shops sell 'clickers' (often based on frogs and other animal shapes!) with a metal spring strip which is pressed to make the noise. Wear shoes a size or so larger than normal and your big toe will have all the room needed to do the biz. It'll be a bit muffled but that'll help to make the noise believable. Just remember to keep your tootsies away from the clicker when you leave the room otherwise you'll sound like a demented tap dancer.....

Yes, that would ruin the ambience slightly. "And I'll just walk you to the door," CLICK CLICK CLICK "No, I won't. I'll just...stay here."

Kate, there's a crucial difference between magic and mentalism...

Magicians entertain the public, mentalists entertain other mentalists

As for "so much more"... well... perhaps in the minds of mentalists, as they get another smug warm glow down the pub because they somehow predicted that when they asked their mate to name a geometric shape they said "triangle"... wow, spooky... but there's really only one "effect", isn't there? Whether you want to say I made a psychic prediction, or I used suggestion and hidden influence, it all seems to play out the same - the spectator makes a choice, and the mentalist smugly reveals they "knew" what was going to happen. Which the spectator *COUGH* believes...

Hell, at least with magic we can make a card come to the top of a deck AND make a sponge ball disappear... and re-appear, if you're really lucky!

And I've yet to actually have a professional mentalist pointed out to me who bases their acts on psychological forces and hidden suggestion... all the guys I've seen on TV and shows etc. use stuff pretty much straight out of Corinda :?

Ian the Magic Ian - be my guest and "get into" mentalism, but please, hlease: don't be boring... come up for air occasionally, and check to see if your audiences eyes are glazing over after the 6th "demonstration of connections and coincidence"...

Yeah, kids love all that stuff don't they? Can you make balloon doggies too?

Oh yes! Not only that, I have this stick that if you pull one of the dangling balls, the other one retracts!

For the record, I see readings and mentalism as two different things as well...

I used to have massive problems with my big toe when younger (the right side for any perfectionalists who want the whole story). I could just bend it and it would make a loud click which could be heard a few feet away clearly.
Spent hours trying to get rid of ir through physio etc.
Blinking wish i hadnt now, although when it is cold i does sometimes come back on the odd occasion. It's to do with swelling i the joints.
Just goes to show - be happy with who you are and dont try to corrct your faults, you may end up regreting later :)

I agree. I have very flexible/loose muscles. Which (after a swimming accident) resulted in my shoulder dislocating very easily. After an operation and physio, my shoulder has stopped dislocating. That could have come in so handy with some escapology routines!
