MISSING THREAD

Postby dat8962 » Aug 6th, '08, 23:01

Where's the thread gone about the Southern Magic Convention and the Blackpool event?

One minute I'm reading about alleged attempts at censorship at Magic Week etc. and now the whole thread goes from TM.

Why?

At the moment it looks as if TM has been pressurised to remove posts.

I'm sensing...confusion. Upset. Emails have been received. The Ten of Swords is prominent. All is not well...

Too many suspiciously similar first posts from 'newcomers' adding foul language and acusations of illegal activities were being made and that's not what we do here so it was moved out of sight before any legal problems reared their ugly heads. One other thread has been locked but there are still the original Blackpool and Southern ones open for proper discussions.

We don't mind honest discussion from all sides but we're not going to be used for propaganda and hidden agenda activities, sorry.

I've just read Mandrake's comments on another thread so guess that it's related and while there may be some new one post members making comments about Certain people, there's no smoke without fire.

The originator, Mike Danata is someone I trust 100% and if he informs that pressure is being applied then it's information that I trust and he's an established member here on TM.

The rivalry between conventions is a shame and magic is the overall loser but I'm told that this is coming from one side and one side only.

My good friend Mr Wand is right - all is not well.

I note the above post from Mandrake which appeared during typing and will say no more on the matter as I've now had my rant. I don't have any hidden agenda.

As was mentioned elsewhere, there were serious personal accusations being made which aren't acceptable. Mike's posts are all above suspicion and it's regretted that the thread with his post in had to be moved because of the stupidity of others.

At the moment, none of us know the full facts so it's hard to know what's actually going on.

I've never been to a magic convention, but have always been led to believe they are great fun and a wonderful way to meet other magically minded folk. It is with a deep sense of disappointment that I now realise that the magic world is as vulnerable to the same political shenanigans (I think that's the correct terminology) and general back-stabbing nastiness as the rest of civilisation.

Take it from me that this type of rubbish goes on in all professional environments, or at least all environments were the making of money is involved. I was working at a psychic fair the other week and some "authentic" romany bloke put a curse on me. Honestly. Luckily a rather attractive young witch gave me a "templar" stone to protect me which I thought was nice of her. See? Rubbish behaviour happens everywhere. You just need to hope that somewhere along the line you find a nice young witch to look out for you when it really matters.

SEMAGICCONVENTION

Postby danata » Aug 6th, '08, 23:57

Hi this is Mike Danata, I don't want to go into too much detail (I may at a later stage!) The situation really has become one now of CENSORSHIP, plus bullying. We all (I hope) believe in freedom, not just our own, but also the freedom of others, sometimes it is the byproduct of the most terrible wars. People are always trampling on others, the "Big Guys" versus the small guys, you only have to look at the situation in China for instance. It takes but the very brave to speak up, some people do so with eloquent words, & some not quite so. The post that was deemed as "Offensive" could have been worded slightly better, but did contain many valid points. That is as much as I am prepared to say at the moment.

I will state however that it IS NOT A MARKETING PLOY, I can assure you!

It really is sadly quite serious.

I'm not sure at this stage just how it will be resolved.

All good wishes

Mike

Note from Mods: Carl, can't you understand that TM will not be used to air your personal rants? If you have a problem with anyone at Blackpool then talk to them, not us. You've arrived out of the blue just to criticise and you have added nothing of value. Your understanding of English is good enough to use gutter language so you should have no problems in understanding these words. If you support the Southern England Convention then this is not the way to do it, all you’re doing is dragging the topic down for your own personal reasons and that can only be viewed as bad for the convention.

You’ve obviously not bothered to read the rules regarding courtesies and forum standards and you’ve certainly not read the warning about not turning threads into another ‘war’ topic. On your own banned head be it.

If I may suggest, I think that perhaps this post should now be locked for the reasons outlined by Mandrake.

Having moved one thread and locked another, I really don't want to see this one locked as well. All it takes is for these extremists to have some respect and consideration for TM and the Southern England Convention. The acid test is that if their remarks were made face to face, would they get away with them? If not, don't post it here.

I once read...

"Magicians are some of the kindest you can meet."

Have things changed since Mark Wilson was in his prime, or was it always this dark behind the scenes?

SEMC for me, Blackpool is a bit out of my way!

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.
