Book Reviews - Not quite magic books

Postby MagicBell » Aug 11th, '08, 20:23

Having recently read Tomo's review of Sam Gosling's 'Snoop' book, I was wondering, Does the book review section have many reviews of books which are not magic but useful to magicians? Specifically, I'm interested in psychology reading, which i would classify Snoop as, and things like Malcolm Gladwell's 'Blink', as well as Derren Brown Trick of the Mind which bridges both territories. Is this stuff generally of any interest to people here and are there more books like them in the review section?

If there are, what classifies as being related enough to justify a review on TM? I wouldn't want to stray too far afield.

If you feel the book may be useful to magicians then by all means post a Review!

I'm guessing you've already read Blink? It's a good, informative read but a bit light on the details. Better still is Intuition by David G. Myers. And as to whether such information may be applicable to magicians, I have made use of the information within said book in one of my published effects.

I've not actually read Blink. I had a brief read of part of it but im currently reading something else and i dont do two books at once. I've got it though and its high on my list.

I don't have anything in particular to review at the moment, but I was just wondering if I should keep TM in mind, should any of my books turn out to be of any use to magicians. But I'd imagine most psychology would probably hold some interest to magicians, or perhaps mentalists especially?

I finished reading blink recently, so I'd be happy enough to throw a review together. I've still got quite a lot of my psychology textbooks left from when I was studying it that I could review if people wanted that sort of thing. A thread recommending a few basic readings on psychology might be of more use though to all these people wanting to add a psychological explanation to their acts.

Or to have a psychological advantage...

powerful stuff if you know how to use it. Thats what misdirection is all about.
