club magic

Hi guys,

I've recently re-started doing magic and this time I want to keep it practical, don't want to spend time studying something beautiful that I'm not gonna use in my life.

I've seen that when I'm more willing to do some magic is when I go out or in situations in which I don't have a nice table in wich to leave my deck, so as propably all of you have done before, now I wonder where can I find practical stuff. Not fancy envelopes or this sort of thing you'd never carry with you when you go to a pub.

Any suggestions in where to start?

Thanks! and excuse if my English is not very good x)

Coin magic, tricks with beer bottles or caps, anything with business cards or photos (i.e. card tricks thinly disguised!), a bit of mentalism etc. Check out some of the book reviews here as they cover works with many different types of magic and some of them can be, or appear to be, impromptu and ideal for social occasions where you don't have time or facilities to prepare the table or perfoming area.

Don't worry about this - well all learn things that we never put into practice whether it's geometry, chemistry or a fancy fourish.

Learning all sorts of varied things is what will lead you down the right route to finding out what you like and dislike. It's what makes you.

:D Andy you could try
Michael Webber's book Life Savers. It's 165 pages of impromptu tricks. About £29.

And Martin Gardner's gigantic Ency' of Impromptu Magic book but this may not be what you want.

Also..and if you are a young magican ( they all seem to buy these) there is Jay Sankey's Two dvds.
Jay Sankey- Sankey Tized 1 and 2. All impromptu stuff.

There is also Greg Wilson's Impromptu Magic dvd but if you have just restarted wait a while for this.

I especially love Life Savers and anything my Martin Gardner. You may also want to check out the Magic Menu. It is actually a magazine for restaurant magicians but they have most of the years bound.
