Do you not think that in a lot of ways entertainment value can be measured by success, though, reverend? You might not find Lennart engaging but he's certainly made his mark, hasn't he? I doubt he'll be too worried about your opinion of him, since people like you and I are barely even the equivalent of footnotes for a hypothetical history of card magic in which he would receive many prominent mentions.

You're certainly entertaining, but only through the lens of the avuncular, holier-than-thou pedant persona you affect when you contribute to internet forums. I wonder; do you affect that persona when you perform, too?

I really, really hate to say this but Mark Lewis is a very engaging performer. I saw him at a psychic convention, at least thats what I think it was many, many years ago and it was not just my view, every time he performed there was standing room only (they took away the chairs) seriously though, at the risk of inflating the ego even more Mr. Lewis was what everyone was talking about...yes and it was in a positive light.

Quick! Somebody teach Mr. Lewis to use YouTube

Seriously though, I honestly would love to see one of his performances, as I really do feel that the gent may be something really special in action!

I'm totally with you on that one, actually. I've only seen the one video of the legend on his website, and it struck me as a fairly ham-fisted demonstration of the Svengali deck. If he is indeed a compelling performer I'd genuinely love to see a video of him doing his thing.

I like him really - as he well knows. It's all pantomime. ;)

At your recommendation, Queenie, I've just taken a quick look at Mark's Video.

RealPlayer? Hmm

Quality of picture? Arrgghh! My eyes are bleeding

Presentation?

Actually, I have a soft spot for the Sven, and I'll give Mr. L his dues - the first part was mostly entertaining, and I certainly enjoyed it.

Things did, however, fall apart somewhat as dear old Mark completely forgot how to introduce the second part...more than once!!!

To be fair, though...I must admit that I do own Mr. Lewis' 'The Long & Short of It' Booklet, and it is a nicely definative publication (even though he refused, point blank, to dedicate it to me with a nasty swear-word, which I was really hoping he would do :( )

Perhaps he can swear at me here a little, which would make me feel somewhat more justified in parting with the asking price

Seriously though, Mark - love your style, and wouldn't have you any other way :D

It ill behooves this ill brought up and terribly working class Yorkshire woman to advise me on how to perform magic. My svengali demonstration is a masterpiece of entertainment and not ham fisted in the slightest. As for my forgetting the second part of the routine so bloody what? When this Stanley personage gets old he will forget things too. And the second part was just as flawless as the first part when my memory came back. I didn't forget how to do it in the middle of the trick-I forgot how to do it before I started so there is nothing to criticise. You can only criticise once the trick started. And it didn't so you shouldn't.

As for You Tube I can't figure it out so I can't put anything up on there.

As for this Viking Green person I can assure you that he is NOT a success expect among other magicians. The blind leading the blind. The man is a doctor in a hospital not a showbusiness person. No doubt he indulges in mercy killing by showing his patients card tricks.

As for making history in magic that will happen from next May when my memoirs are published by David Ben of Magicana. He has published many books concerning and about Del Ray, Herb Zarrow, Stewart James and Dai Vernon. However these people are unimportant when compared with myself. The book is entitled "The Lives of a Showman" and has already been written. It still has to be refined and put into print and promoted.

Wait until May of next year. Until then you will all have to wait until I make history.

I'm really interested in reading this book of yours. I can't wait.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.
