Ammar's Card on Ceiling advice

Postby TimEden » Aug 4th, '08, 22:13

I've heard so much about this trick on here but would be grateful for the following advice:

1. Do you get anything in the pack apart from the wax and instructions?

2. Does the wax leave a residue on the ceiling? I'm sure I'd love the trick but not so sure my wife would if it leaves a stain on our lovely white ceilings!!

3. Can the wax be used for other tricks in particular those in Hugard's Encyclopedia where two cards become stuck together to look like one? Or am I better off buying harder wax for that?

I bought this a while ago and all I got was:

1 - Pot of wax (this is apparently a special blend made for card on ceiling)
2 - A small pamphlet explaining a couple of handlings

You can find a few extra handlings and ideas on the effect without to much effort (such as using a gimmicked box and having the card apparently penetrate the box and stick to the ceiling).

If you want me to dig it out of a drawer and give you more info PM me.

If memory serves, Ammar shows his card on ceiling effect in one of his 'Easy to master card miracles' dvd's although I can't remember which one off the top of my head. I've not had any experience with other card on ceiling effects but for an impromptu c.o.c I'd imagine this would have to take some beating.

If you buy the e.t.m.c.m dvd you also obviously get half a dozen other corking effects to boot! :)

The wax does not stay on the ceiling but stays on the card instead, and sometines can be a pain to get off without damaging the card too much. The wax can be used for other tricks such as the great card levitation effect: Hummer card.

Thanks for your comments. Think I will take the plunge...

Sorry if I've missed some etiquette on here re. "MW". Some online sales sites let you know that this is what you need for the trick anyway but I can see why you would want to expose as little as possible on here nonetheless.

In regards to question number two...

One shouldn't worry too much about stains on the ceiling as you should really leave the cards stuck there for all time and if need be eventually paint around them, hehehe.

I'm not kidding, they are awesome conversation pieces when company shows up and a great lead in for a night of magic at the magicians house.

Right now I have over a dozen cards stuck to my living room ceiling, thankfully my wife doesn't mind and appreciates them, some of them have been up there for years.

This is really a great card trick, there are a few bars and old places of employment that have cards still stuck to the ceiling and people talk about it for fricken years man.

You might want to investigate Fearson's Card in Ceiling effect, too. I'm sure a playing card getting physically lodged in the ceiling will put a grease stain into perspective. :D

I'm no card man (hate the things, actually) but I've stood there with Michael on numerous occasions over the years, as he's done the Card on Ceiling... including a 3 story toss & stick during the Queen Mary Convention long, long ago.

I can assure you that Michael has researched the living daylights out of this bit can sells only the "best" method that he's found to work in well over 30 years of working on it.

Though they are now gone, there were a few magic clubs in the 70s and early 80s known for all the signed playing cards lining their ceilings as the result of this one effect and the fact that every magician in the house did it; it was super popular in the day and it would seem, making a come back in our present.

Michael was at the Blackpool Convention a couple of years ago doing this and the cards were still on the ceiling in the Horeshoe Lounge earlier this year - long lasting sticky or what?!

and once you get good at tossing the cards you will be able to have a spec point to a specific spot and nail it everytime.

Makes me realise that I could at long last have a solution to trying to keep posters up in my teaching rooms as blu-tack always seems to give up within a year.

Shame that (a) it'd be the most expensive form of blu-tack ever and (b) you lot'd probably ostracise me for the mis-use of magic materials!!

One point to note is that when doing paid gigs in restaurants etc, the manager might not be very happy with you adhering a playing card to his ceiling - ive heard stories along the lines of the Magician having to pay for a ceiling clean because of the wax.

Its a beautiful effect, it really is, but its not as practical as i would be comfortable using regularly as a Pro.

most celings in pubs, clubs, and resterants have still got that natural nicoteen layer to protect the paint, so dont worry.
just dont do it on a suspended ceiling.

Ive heard several tales first hand, about the ceiling comming down with the rest of the deck.
