8 foot appearing pole

Postby magician in the making » Aug 24th, '08, 12:32

I have seen an 8 foot appearing pole for twenty pounds which I think is quite cheap, but i still don't know if it's worth buying for a ten second effect. And would it fit in chop cup for a grand finale.

£20 is a good price but it depends a lot on the condition. These can be prone to looking 'tatty' if they're not cared for.

As for fitting it into a chop cup - this won't work because of the way that the pole works unless you have a cup that is about 3 inches wide :?

Only you can answer whether it's worth spending £20 for a 10 second effect.

I'm assuming that this works on a similar principal to appearing canes/candles etc.

I've got a Fantasio Appearing Cane, which was a little pricey for what it is, and the trick only lasts for about 5 seconds. However, I use it in every children's show that I do as part of my 'opening medley' of misc cool stuff, and it rarely fails to get a good reaction.

Well worth the price I paid for it for gaining instant respect from an audience of 5 year olds

As for your Chop Cup, I suppose it depends on what size of cup you have. I have a standard Morrisey Chop Cup, which is large enough to hold a regular competition sized tennis ball. Your best bet would be to ask the dealer for the prop's dimensions, then you'll be able to measure your chop cup before you buy it.

My advice is not to ignore little touches, they are often appriciated and remembered.

I can answer the above as I also own a Morrisey chop cup and it won't fit.

The pole works in a slightly different way to the appearing cane meaning it won't fit a chop cup.

When the pole is in the set position it is around five inches in height and five inches across so you would either need a very wide or very deep cup.

I agree on the appearing cane and it gets great reactions but I don't think that matching it with a chop cup routine would work too well.

The pole is best produced from a small sized paper bag or similar in my opinion.

Hope this helps

I own the an 8 foot appearing pole and like dat896 said it will not fit into a chop cup. The container needed for the pole to appear from must be at least 6X4X4 to manouver it comfterably.
For me 20 pounds is a good price. But, it is the main surprise in my finale, so it carries an important role.

I have the 8 foot McDonalds straw instead of the wooden effect pole. Exactly the same principle but just looks different.

I sometimes use it as an opener and carry it on inside a McDonalds bag with a McDonalds cup and empty burger box etc. I unpack the items from the bag and leave the straw until last and it NEVER fails to get a laugh.

I paid full price which I think was around £35 and it has been great value.
