Absolute Pure Sleight Of Hand Card Magic

Postby Lenoir » Aug 30th, '08, 19:27

Hey Folks, haven't posted much this past week, was in Norfolk(yarp)! Fishing for the very first time with cheap fishing rods from Argos, managed to catch a 3 lb Common Carp, a 5 lb Tench and about a million diddy roach.

Anywhom, at this current second of this current day, my main interest and underlying interest for most of my life in magic has been sleight of hand with cards. Sure, I like the ID now and again, but nothing thrills me more () than a purely sleight enginered effect.

Could anyone possibly point me in the direction of books/dvd's/lecture notes of where I could obtain EFFECTS, not the sleights in themselves (ie not Expert Card Technique) but routines and effects that are on the more technical side?

Yes I know, it's in the presentation not the method, but I would like routines/effects that can provide me with oppurtunities to use the sleights I have painstakingly learnt.

So far I have the first three Scams and Fantasy's by Darwin Ortiz which are BRILLIANT. Any technical card worker should definately take a look.

I also have several of the Lennart series and a few notes by Peter Duffie into arithmatic card sequences etc.

Thank you all in advance,

The ever loving,
Wild Card

The Trilogy by Dan & Dave Buck? That's sleight-tastic.

Cheers Queenie, I was thinking about it, but I find it so very hard to watch the Twins. I Might buy just one of the discs, not really a big flourish fan.

There was a Hollingworth video in the clearance at International Magic 2 weeks ago, I went a week later and it had gone which was quite irritating!

I am a big fan of Sadowitz, nice being able to talk to him every now and again although he's not excactly one for sharing!

Are there many of his books still in print?

I know exactly what you mean. I have The Trilogy discs 1 and 3; "Tricks" and "Everythingelse" respectively - and they are superb. Disc 2, "Flourishes", I will die happy if I never see.

The only place you can buy them individually instead of as a box set is DanandDave.com, I think, but their international postage is super fast.

Point your peepers at this little doo-dah for an example from the DVD of pure, beautiful sleight of hand: http://www.humyo.com/F/59381-186081059

"By Forces Unseen" - Ernest Earick

What they say:

Behind the shimmering veil of magic you will discover a rich body of innovative sleight-of-hand that includes motionless one-handed bottom palms, slow-motion fingertip card steals, indetectable palm-to-palm transfers, refined riffle-shuffle work and more.

Seldom does one find a work of such determined invention and artistry. If you delight in baffling card magic and exquisite sleight-of-hand—in magic that puts you a running cut ahead of your competition—you'll want By Forces Unseen.

Great book.

I'll also second The Trilogy by the Bucks, throw away disc two but practice till your fingers are broken on the other two discs.

I can second dimabbq's suggestion of Ernest Earick's "By Forces Unseen". The sleights are truly innovative and there not too many cardies out there who are able to handle them - a true challenge I would say ;)

There's a video out there of a guy who has perfected almost all of the feats in the book - have a look, it's worth it!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0wxinoS4eI

Cheers,
Magnus
