Coin Trick

Postby Robm1955 » Sep 2nd, '08, 18:07

I've just been to Vegas, and saw a coin trick called 'Scotch & Soda', in the Magic shop in the Stratosphere. They guy said if I bought the trick, he would teach me the first five tricks in the book. I didn't buy it there and then, but wished I had. I later saw the book and coins, in another shop, with 5 more tricks (and higher priced) in another shop. This time I decided to buy, but wasn't offered any tuition. The book that comes with the coins, which are basically a shell, insert and a mexican coin, is all that clear, with no diagrams. Can anyone give me any tips, if anyone is aware of the basic trick. It comprises of showing the audience a silver dollar and a copper coin. These are in given to a member of the audience, and the copper coin suddenly becomes a silver quarter.

Although it may be a legitimate question, it's unlikely to get the response you hope for. There are very strict rules on this forum to stop exposure of the mechanics behind the tricks and similar rules about "Fishing." Meaning to seak the method behind an effect without directly asking "How does this work?"

Anyway, there is a book, aptly names "The Scotch and Soda Book" that contains plenty of routines etc which I suggest you take a look at!

or alternatively the DVD "25 tricks with Scotch and Soda Coins"

Thanks Wild Card. I really should have known better than to ask. I know how the trick is done, but haven't had instruction. I think what I need to do is learn the palming methods in the book (again no diagrams). I was going to show my daughter the trick, and she said, "Let me see the coins", which spoilt it.

For pretty cheap you can buy "Bobo's Modern Coin Magic" which has dozens of sleights and tricks, most without gimmicks. It is like the bible of all coin magic and I'm sure the required Palms etc will be in there with diagrams and better explanations.
