Does anyone know if you can use a normal printer to print onto blank playing cards?

are there any other options or will i have to write with a sharpie?

Somewhere I saw something about printing on to blank playing cards.

In fact I think it was a video on youtube but for the life of me I can't find it.

In short, he printed his design onto a piece normal paper, stuck a blank card over the design, onto the paper and then reprinted so it was perfectly alligned. Not sure what kind of printer he was using though.

Ah! That explains it! I'd always wondered, you know...

I suspect my ageing Lexmark would misalign things, though.

what kind of gaffed cards are you thinking of making? I ask because there are many other methods out there that are better than trying to print your own.

also, i recon that 90% of the gaffs youd ever want, are already available from dealers, printed on USPC Stock.

without giving too much away, i want to perform Nyman's The Hidden with red cards. I've checked Alakazam and they dont give the choice of colour.

I currently have the blue set but other gaffs and gimmicks that i have are on red bikes. I'd like them all to be the same so i can perform a colour changing deck as a finale without the specs thinking - that was the blue deck from earlier on.

To be honest, if it was me i would change all the other gaffs to blue .

I recon blue to red is a better colour change anyways, since red stands out more.

kind of a problem as i have a £50 extractor in red and Choas 2 in red, both of which i like to use - grrr (thats me being angry!)

you could stop being such a perfectionist.

Seriously though, think of a reason that will justify swapping decks.

the words " lets use a fresh deck" could be all it takes.
particually if you start your set, by using a deck that is clearly a little distressed.

or maybe the first deck is used in an effect where a couple of cards are marked, or destroyed. if so, it stands to reason you would need to bring in a fresh pack, because you need all 52.

thats true, i was even thinking of a 'do as i do' routine and just pocketing the blue ones without an explanation.

just thought if it wasd as simple as putting them through the printer i'd have a go.

Darwin Ortiz uses several decks in his routines, often without explanation for a switch. Usually putting the deck away, taking about the next effect or whatever and then bringing out a different deck won't cause the slightest bit of suspicion.

That sounds like a good idea, but knowing my luck the card would end up jammed and lost forever somewhere inside my printer.

HERE is a free PDF explaining how to make gaff cards reasonably easily. There is also another way to print the gaff cards instead of sticking the blank cards on the piece of paper and running it through again you embed the blank card in thick printer card.

Just an idea, but you could print onto transparent labels which are suitable for inkjet printers and then stick that onto the card.

The labels you can get these days are pretty good and you can get different sizes which can be then cut down etc.
