Owners of The Classic Magic of Larry Jennings - help needed

Postby johnnygri » Aug 16th, '08, 18:09

Hi there, if you've got a copy of this book, I could really do with your help as I have am having an incredible amount of trouble understanding the explanation of a sleight.

The sleight is Larry's modified Curry Turnover which appears on pages 10 and 11 as a part of the explanation of the trick 'Synchronicity'.

I have just spent an hour trying to understand it and though I'm usually at home with card books, I must admit complete defeat - I cannot this right. So much so I'm actually beginning to wonder whether the move as explained in the book is actually possible, but I'm sure that remark will come back to haunt me.

If any of you have successfully mastered this sleight I would really appreciate your help.

Or if you've got the book and wouldn't mind referring to the sleight mentioned and having a look, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. The trick sounds superb.

I have Paul Curry's Worlds Beyond and have read the explanation of The Curry Turnover Change, which is fine. I know I could simply use that move instead, but I need to know if I am reading the explanation in the Jennings book wrong (probably) or if the explanation simply isn't as clear as it might be.

Cheers

Hi Johnny,

I agree that the description isn't the clearest, but you can work it out if you read carefully along with the figures. Your turning the tabled card onto the deck and then basically doing a mechanical second.

The action should look like your are turning the card towards the spectator. Try just turning a card out a few times in front of a practise mirror so you can see what it should look like.

It also helps if you use a close up mat as the springy surface makes the lift easier. You need to roll your wrist forward to give more cover or you will flash the original card. Also start with a half deck to get you used to the move. You may find it useful to move the deck into more of a master grip than a straight mechanics.

If this isn't any clearer then PM me and we can discuss this in more detail than would be allowed here.

Hi pdjamez, thanks for the reply.

but you can work it out if you read carefully along with the figures

That's normally the case, but reading and re-reading simply didn't work this time!

Try just turning a card out a few times in front of a practise mirror so you can see what it should look like. It also helps if you use a close up mat as the springy surface makes the lift easier.

Mais naturellement. 8)

I'll certainly try from the master grip, thanks for your help.

Hi pdjamez, thanks for asking. I did manage to actually understand the move, so thanks for your help on that one.

Funny thing is, I decided the trick wasn't quite right for my character so left it out - have invested in learning Mnemonica instead, wow am I glad I did that.

Cheers
