Hi Stuart

If you do a search, you should be able to find posts offering guidance on dvds and books for the beginner in card magic.

basicaly books,
royal road to card magic, and card colledge
dvds..
too many to mention.
are you interested in learning tricks, sleights, or flourishes?

Dale

Hi Stuart.

Welcome to TM.

The best book for learning magic, which I'm sure the majority of users on this forum will tell you are:

Royal road to card magic (Often referred to as rrtcm)
Mark Wilsons complete course in magic

Have fun :D

Seriously, start with Mark Wilson's book. Every single move is illustrated. There is also a lot more then card magic so you can see what else is out there. Even if you were hell bent on just cards I would still go with Mark Wilson, just because its so easy to follow and will make the transition to Royal Road that much easier, also along with Royal Road pick up Cards Counts and moves.

Welcome

DVD wise you can't go wrong with Born to Perform Card Magic (Penguin) as a beginner

I never had Mark Wilson's until this monday, believe it or not. I had this other book which is a large book that covers a lot of card tricks, money, rope, mental and several other areas of magic.

I can't recall the name but I think I still have it.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Hi and welcome :) ,

I agree with bmat's opinion. MWCCIM is an excellent resource, and will give you a sound grounding in magic.

amazing book, i must agree...
it was my first book as a magician, and it teaches all the foundation sleights, and also a few good tricks to put together a routine. it covers many different types of magic, so it will help you decide what kind you prefer to perform.
ENJOY! :D

I started with "expert at the card table" at age 14 and thought it was great.
I think it's up there in the great books to start with list but I'm a little out off touch with whats good and relevent compared to today's standards.

hi buddy im from nottingham myself and found it hard trying to start doing card magic there so before i moved to plymouth i actually started like everyone with the svengali deck and tapered deck then went to a regular deck and as your confidence grows i took on 9 volumes of michael ammar's easy to master card miricles which i must say were amazing for beginners and pro's alike and each volume comes with a bonus effect/prop, i would reccommend that personally.

Well DVDs aren't allowed for sale on here, so that's out the window.

Also, with these kind of DVDs, i don't think low prices exist. Its pretty much, pay what its worth. Low demand, high price. Basically, if you want the material then you're going to pay the full price for it. It's not like movies where they drop the price to shift all the supply.

Which is a shame cause there's a DVD set or two that I've got my eye on. Prices only vary marginally from what I've seen.
