I'm not pi**d

Postby magicdiscoman » Aug 23rd, '08, 21:21

since its not realy magic related iv'e posted it in here, since my condition, now loosly called MS, is getting worse iv'e given up on discos and bring limited music gear for children's parties but still do magic.
anyway my main job thease days is careing and here in lies the problem, since i walk with a limp even when pushing a wheel chair which i do often I'm regularly getting asked, should i be pushing the chair when I'm pi**ed or can I buy you a coffee to sober you up.

what I'm asking for is, if anyone comes across a suitable pick to add to the text "I'm not pi**sed I have M.S" on the t shirt transfer I'm working on please let me have a link, like a disabled sign having a drink.
I'm looking myself and I'll be putting my magician for hire tag on the back.
many thanks..... ps photo shop is not my friend.

MagicDiscoMan I admire you and I empathise with your MS, I recently saw this on tv and spoke to a sufferer of ME who has done this and she said it has helped tremendously. Now I know ME and MS are different but this yanky doc has studied and developed this for a long time so it may (or may not) be of interest to you fella!

This sort of insensitive busy-bodying really makes my blood boil. I'd be tempted to retort "I have MS you insensitive clod!"

Top marks to Kate for the graphic!

Two nights ago I attempted to do my normal one hour program... 40 minutes into it I nearly collapsed because my body, nor my mind can handle the demands of doing a normal show... MS being the primary culprit, which a recent MRI of the brain denoted, is getting worse... especially in those region affecting memory.

In short, I can more than sympathize and empathize with you man; this is a humbling and cruel ailment and the only good medicine for it, is for us to hold on tightly to a positive attitude and keep ourselves busy within the world we love most -- those areas that challenge us and help us "keep our chops" as it were.

Though I've joked about it for some time now, the reality is that I must now redesign my "show" so that I'm working all of it from my wheelchair... not a scenario I'm prepared for in all honesty, but one I knew was heading my way.

It's a huge B*I*T*C*H but one we can keep at bey.

Feel free to pm me anytime

Sorry to be nosy, but you have MS too?

I don't wish to sound patronising, but I admire this of both of you. Stereotypical ideals would have us believe that anyone with any kind of condition, even when they have accepted it, are just resigned to succumbing to it. It's not everyday that I knowingly come across people in such a position, so it's nice to be reminded that this isn't the case.

Sorry again. I've had my say and I can now continue to see you both as general contributors rather than 'members with MS'.

 You'd be surprised as to the number of people I know with MS that are still working. Even Annette (from the Mickey Mouse Club) still tours and does talks though she's in a bad way now.

Though my official diagnosis wasn't until November of 2003 it is believed that I've dealt with it for at least 25-30 years given the amount of lesions showing on my brain. I go in on the 30th for the next MRI series on my spine in that my Neurologist believes it may now be showing there as well. (just what I want to do on a Saturday... spend over an hour in a small cramped noise tunnel)

Carol Roy, wife to Mr. Electric of Liberace fame is also living with MS and the two of them are still doing shows in Palm Springs. I've heard rumor of a few other noted performers as well.

In my case, I have about six other chronic health challenges as well, some of it genetic and a big chunk of it based on stupid stuff I did in my youth (like jumping out of perfectly good air craft) but hey, life's for living!

Speaking about doing shows from wheelchairs and so on...

Several years ago on TV we saw a stand-up comedian who was on crutches. I can't recall precisely what condition he had (possibly cerebral palsy), and it doesn't matter, but he pulled a master stroke. He made his way to the mike with everybody in the audience sort of embarrassed, then held out one crutch at arm's length, let go, and watched it fall to the floor. "Hah! It's nothing without me," he said.

Big laugh, embarrassment shattered. Got the disability out in the open, acknowledged, and dismissed, all in one line, then went on to do a darn good bit of comedy.
