Prediction

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Sep 21st, '08, 23:26

Maybe I'm stressing over this to much but, In November, I'm doing a stage competition, and I need a good stage prediction.

Magicians will be there and I think I'm just stressing to much but I'd like to do something rather different.

Any ideas would be much appreciated. :D

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

What kind of prediction did you want to do?

Well, there's a big presidential election happening across the Pond in November.

But you probably won't be given the time in your competition to wait for the results to come in...

They won't have happened yet.

Not exactly a full on prediction, but if you have Psychological Subtleties there is a great section on using the object you throw out to choose spectators with as a prediction.

"I want to do magic...but I don't want to be referred to as a magician." - A layman chatting to me about magic.

Darn. Well in it's essence, it involves throwing out objects, say a crumpled up piece of paper, asking or testing the spectator who catches it with a question to test their "ability" and then them unscrumpling the piece of paper to reveal their anwser. I'll delete this thread if anyone somehow things it exposure.

I've seen that before. I don't think it's exposure though.

I can purchase whatever it is that I need to. (under $40 dollars)

There's so many options, perhaps you can narrow down the concept of prediction?

Are you looking for a prediction of choices people make (ie - chair predictions, confabulation-style)? Or, are you looking for a more traditional event style prediction (lottery numbers, major event, etc.)?

Rick Maue's Fate can play as a powerful prediction. It also allows for a good deal of audience participation, with 5 spectator's assisting through the demonstration. It's also incredibly under-priced, but that's pretty much Rick's MO.

Patrick Redford has a fantastic Chair Prediction (Ensconced Fundament), which, while a bit pricey, is worth taking a look at.

Or were you thinking more along the lines of a locked box on stage, with a prediction shown at the end? In that case, there's items like these:

Smaller in size, but certainly looks great. I believe Iain owns this, so you could speak with him about whether or not it suits your needs.

For a low-cost method, Jay Sankey's Omnilopes can work on stage.

There's also expensive versions. You could also check out Corinda, there's always something there to help you out!

This actually may not be the best thing to do but... What about a serial number on a dollar prediction? Is that to much of a well known thing to do or would I be fine amongst magicians?

Again I've never performed a stage show for magicians and I'm a little nervous.

If you're getting into mentalism, but Corinda, and probably Anneman's (sp?) Practical Mental Magic. Both have a wealth of information in them, including stacks of prediction effects.
