JUMBO DAY

Early I know, but a heads up, as this year it's later than usual. The event is usually held at the end of October, but this year it's the first week in November. This is so it doesn't collide with other events held around the same time.

This is the south coasts LARGEST annual one day magic event,... at the moment, Er hum SEMC, cough cough

THE STAR LECTURE by Geoffrey Durham. You will have seen him at Blackpool magicians convention (if you were there). http://www.geoffreydurham.com/

THE PRICE is a bargain, as always. £13 if you pre-book (advisable) or £15 on the day. This includes up to 100 dealers, close up sessions, the auction, lecture, and the evening Gala show. You can even sell your old props on the day (tables are available, but usually get snapped up early).

THE VENUE.

The Buckland Community centre

It's 2 minutes off the M27 at Portsmouth, and there is ample parking at nearby Travelodge.

More details found on the website:

Which is usually updated closer to the time.

Lunches are available (at a reasonable price) to pre-book at the Buckland Community Centre restaurant through-out the morning, We advise you do this as soon as possible. The centre also has a Licenced Bar which will be open at various times during the day

Fancy a meetup? Well Portsmouth is as good a place as any.

Just received more details reference this:

PORTSMOUTH'S ANNUAL JUMBO DAY

SUNDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2008

Buckland Community Centre, Malins Road, Portsmouth, PO2 7BL

Dear Fellow Magician,

Here we are again with another great Portsmouth Jumbo Day. The good news is you will have a much easier journey and plenty of parking because we have avoided last year's clash with the Great South Run! You will enjoy a huge hall plus two large rooms to accommodate a wide range of magical dealers, with plenty of space for you to sell your surplus props and effects; a great auction for those last-minute bargains; bar and cafeteria open all day; Bob Hamilton Video Room; four fantastic, professional close-up performers; star lecture by the one and only GEOFFREY DURHAM, who promises a different lecture to his I.B.M performance this year; and finally, a great gala show featuring Marc Oberon, Roy Charles, Peter Wardell and, especially flown from the USA, Thom Peterson.

New this year, two hands-on workshops run by our own expert members. We've got a lecture on card-splitting – an expert hands-on tutorial on how to make your own gimmicked cards. Also, Robbie Driscoll on Origami – with a few twists and folds, produce an amazing pterodactyl before their very eyes!

Plus Saturday Night Mix & Mingle, for those of you in town the night before and who wish to catch up with old friends before the Sunday rush. We provide a light buffet and bar - you might even learn a few secrets from some top professionals! On Sunday, there is a choice of three entry methods.

Fast-Track speeds up the registration process and enables you to get into the hall faster than those who decide to queue and pay on the door. This method will be particularly useful if you need space to sell your used or new props and effects. All you have to do is complete the enclosed form and return it with your payment of only £13, (£6.50 for under 16s) plus an s.a.e. for us to send you your fast-track pass.

Pay-on-the-Day is still available if you prefer. Please be patient with us as the registration process inevitably will be a little slower. On-the-day entry fee and registration will be £15 (£7.50 for juniors 16 and under).

Gala Show Only - £5 Adults and £3.00 for under 16s

Advance Dealer Registration is the favoured and traditional method for magical dealers with large stocks to sell. For £36, you will receive entry for up to two people, free tea/coffee, early access to the hall (anticipated for 08:15, via the side entrance), a position of your choice (subject to availability) and assistance to carry your stock into the hall.

Finally, our web site www.JumboDay.co.uk has all the information you need about location, directions and parking, forms you can download for Fast-Track Entry and Advance Dealer Registration, plus a full programme of events.

Hopefully, I have covered everything you may need to know and if you do need to contact me, I will be happy to help in any way I can. Please, please, please try to restrict all your communications to email – info@JumboDay.co.uk. Best wishes to you all and I look forward to seeing you on Jumbo Day.

President and Registration Officer

Closing date for Advance and Fast-Track Registration is 10th October 2008

Or admire the stunning views from Portsmouth's newest landmark, the Spinnaker Tower. Or spend your day at the award winning shopping and leisure complex, Gunwharf Quays - with over 20 cosmopolitan bars and restaurants. No need to book, just turn up and have fun!

In my case, too far. It's excellent value - you have Geoff Durham and he's worth twice that amount on his own!

He is good, that's definitely a draw factor.

If anyone's in the locality and still wondering about going along, just do it! Geoff's lectures are superb and, in stark contrast to many lecturers, he's a trained actor who knows all about projecting his voice and having a larger than life stage presence. He speaks to everyone in the room but you come away with the feeling that he spoke directly to you most of the time. His voice is clear and the lecture is given with no faffing about. Don't miss the chance, Geoff changes his career path every 7 years or so and he might not be doing this much longer!
