Sorry for the essay but I'm happy at the moment.
After about 6 months of doing RRTCM / Wilson card tricks and practising them to death, I have finally done some tricks to people who I dont know.
As I was leaving to go on hols 2 weeks ago, I saw a sign in a local hotel that they were holding a wedding fayre. I phoned the organisers and they wanted £75 for a small table and as it was a small fayre, they only wanted one of each type of exhibit - no competition, brilliant.
I booked the table and did the show Last sunday and I really enjoyed it. I had about 10 tricks learnt really well which I tried to make diverse (gimmicked deck, transpos, sleights and a back-up, if all else fails ID!) so that if people did visit and come back they would hopefully see something new.
I turned up about 1hr early and had to get over my nerves quickly as the other exhibitors wanted to see some stuff (I now know that i tend to talk quickly when nervous and am working on this next).
The show was 11-4 and was great fun, I had one definate booking for next summer and a lot of interested people taking my details. The best thing was the experience of getting out there and doing it, I didnt fancy approaching people in my local pub (as its a bit rougher than usual) but everyone there seemed to enjoy my show and my confidence has gotten much better as a result.
In no way am I recommending people to perform in public if they dont feel ready or havent practised enough, but I am saying that if you feel ready, go for it, but be prepared - its a lot more nerve wracking in front of people who arent friends and family!
