TM newcomers and magic newcomers Suggested Reading!

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Oct 1st, '08, 19:31

If you're wondering what book to get that best suits your style or if your a beginner wondering which style to start out with. Look no further than this thread.

These books are the most highly regarded and recommended books on TM and in the magical world.

A good rule of thumb in terms of magic books is that any thing that starts with "Carl Fulves Self Working _________" It's usually a book that you want to pick up. They're cheap and well worth it.

If you have any questions or additions feel free to PM me.

BEGINNER Highly Suggested:

1.Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic: Great book has everything in it.

2. Royal Road to Card Magic, sometimes referred to as RRTCM: This covers everything from beginner to advanced sleights and tricks.

3. Bobo's Modern Coin Magic: Great book has everything coin related somewhere in there. It has beginner-advanced sleights and tricks as well.

These three books above are the holy trinity on this, and I assume many other forums. As well as being some of the best beginner books.

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Although I see the point of the thread, I think it takes away from the community feel.

Each newcomer describes their interests and we given them personalised advice. Yes, the material you have suggested is pretty much what is usually advised, but I think one of the pleasures of joining the forum is to be welcomed by everybody and given your own advice. Not just read a thread generalizing everybody.

Personal opinion .....

Nice idea, but if id have seen that when i joined i would probably have quit then ........ i knew what i wanted to do, and to be told i HAVE to do something in my view pointless, i would have gone somewhere else .......

I did research the forum before i joined and found out from effort what was reccomended etc etc .... the info is already there as well as good hints and tips, failing that i used the old Pm system and asked peeps......

Well done on the effort though, someone will find it useful...

I see your point and I agree.

Ah well, maybe someone will find it useful.

I could edit it to the point where it's recommended reading maybe? Would that be better?
