Hola all! Advice on mentalism asked.

Postby AndreasvanHaren » Oct 1st, '08, 21:02

Hi there!

I am new on this forum and am glad I found it. I have never done any magic but was always very interested in it. Could someone give me some advice, please? I would like to learn mentalism, what book should I start with?

Best wishes,
André,
Sweden

Hey and welcome to TM. A good starting place for mentalism is 13 steps by Corinda.

Look in the Support and Tips section and look in the Becoming a Mentalist sticky, great post.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Thanks for the quick responds. I am amazed by what Derren Brown does and hope to find something like that to amaze friends!

What Derren Brown performs has taken him years to do . It's psychology and hypnosis (with a bit of conjuring). You won't find any quick fixes when it comes to what Derren Brown does.

Well, everything has to start small... I did study nlp in the past and know he is using technics that are used in it. But for now, I am happy just to learn a basic mentalism trick. For me, being a composer in the first place, magic is just for fun.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

Also have a look in the Review sections on Books and Electronic format, lots of information in there. Yiou might want to consider the works of Paul Brook later on, lots of first class routines!

Welcome to TM, 13 steps is a great place to start followed by practical mental magic IMO also another one which hasn't been mentioned yet is Karl Fulves self working mental magic. These three books will supply you with enouth information to last a good year or two, good luck.
