How magic should be sold? More of a social experiment

Postby Beardy » Oct 5th, '08, 13:52

Ages ago, many of you may remember my "reputation maker" effect that "blows the spectators away" that I posted up - my card through window creation, "Evacuation - signed card through ungimmicked window".

Here is the thread:

http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic18434.php&highlight=evacuation

I know there is no video - they all got deleted when I changed laptop! So this is more something for those who have either

a) seen the video already
b) want to take a risk

*ahem*

The thing that has really annoyed me, is the amount of money I have wasted on c*** (not the best) magic. Magic that is mis-leading in the advertising. Sometimes I would have paid more than what I did for it, sometimes I didn't even want to have paid half.

I've decided to put this on sale how I believe magic should be put on sale...that is, if everybody was moral.

Originally selling for £18 (with many happy buyers...who may not be as happy after they finish reading this thread, but there you go) I've decided to reduce the price...

to being free

I know that seems weird, and a bit of a price drop, but hey ho.

There is a catch however.

I'm more seeing whether or not this method of selling would actually succeed in the real world of magic...errr...selling.

If you read it and like what you read, and feel that you got something positive from it - be it performing the effect itself or even some small ideas that were good, then you may (should you wish) make a small contribution towards my time and effort that went into it - pm me for paypal address ;).

If you read it and like it, but dont see it as something for you, you may still contribute if you like, but once again, it is your choice.

If you read it and hated it, and feel that it is a pile of w***, then there you go. Feel happy in the knowledge that you didn't spend £18 on it.

In the storefront it shows how many people downloaded it, so I'm just wondering whether this way of selling would actually work for a small ameteur, or whether there are too many people after freebies out there!

Basically, in my opinion, I've wasted too much money. I do want this effect to get out to people. Granted, it isn't for everyone, which is now why I have done what I have done.

Find it at:

And..well...I hope you like it!

Peace out, and love you all!

edit:

Just found the original video and transferred it over from my old laptop. This was the first video anybody saw. I don;t have any of the other videos on either laptop, or the internet:

Nice effect...

And an interesting way of promoting yourself.

Was it radiohead that did the same with 1 of their albums.

I know mcfly gave latest album away free with the star. (I cherish it deeply as not just a new mcfly album, but a yardstick by which all other music should be measured!)

I guess its a good idea cos it gets your name out and about.

Not that Im gonna contribute tho!
Mwahahahahahaha!!
