Hi Superstar DJ,

first a big welcome to Talk Magic. We hope to see more of you.

As for the Raven, I suggest you do a search for RAVEN, as there have been literally 100's of posts about it.

Also, this post would have been better suited in the Support and Tips area (where I will move it). I don't mean to have a go at you as I dont want to put you off, but please try and be aware of the different forums.

thanks

Greetings and welcome! As you'll soon discover, if you don't already know, Raven is more of a utility than a trick in it's own right and it can be used for many different effects. The associated Raven video clearly illustrates the written instructions and is worth the money if you're serious about using Raven - and have the cash, of course! Again, welcome to TM and keep the postings coming!

Couple of tips

Postby Johnny Bravo » Oct 12th, '04, 15:11

Hi all

Brand new to this great forum, having just got into magic the last 3 - 4 months. Regarding the Raven which I purchased a few days ago a couple of tips I've found threw personal practise.

I want to use the trick using clothes I normally wear so I first tried it using a denim jacket. Kept snagging on the sleeve cuff. A normal suit jacket which I don't normally wear, too much movement on the arm as the raven shot up & wherever I attached the raven their was some kind of crease in the material.
Finaly my good old leather jacket, ahh just right. It is mentioned elsewhere but it's so tru, the heavier the material the better.

Secondly it's nice to use borrowed coins & in my limited experiance a 2p clicks far quiter than a penny. But it still clicks.

I imagine this sound is deafening to the magician but not noticable to the punter, is this right? If not does anyone have any ideas of the best way to cover the clicks. I imagine lots of chat at the right moment?

Howdo and welcome! You're spot on with the noise thing, plenty of appropriate patter and distracting body language will mask a lot of 'talking' from the objects to be vanished.

okey dokey regards the click there are a few ways you can cover the click but why not try a click or slap vanish.
slap vanish is like doing a high five down low  .
a click vanish involves useing another coin as a magic wand and clicking it onto the other coin and vanishing both, pooky or what.

you could consider useing a shirt hook up instead of a jacket which is much better for china changes and swaps ala raven 2.

Hi

I have covered my raven with some black fake fur - it's not a 100% cure but is is better.

It can be attached to belt loops and performed from there.

The Raven DVD is worth getting.
