I did a potter launch for the order of the phoeonix, in W.H Smiths in Putney. Great gig that.. Oooo i could tell a tale or two about that one. but im afraid they are well and trully far to personal to share.( it leaves me with a rosey glow of contentment thinking about it 8) )

Any suggestions on landing a gig at a book launch? I would love to do something like this and have never done one before...what can you tell me about approaching them, questions they may ask, as well as how you sold the idea?

Anything would be much appreciated!

From what I know waterstones have a promotional budget at each individual shop that the local manager can spend how he sees fit, so approaching waterstones on a shop by shop basis would be a good idea. Blackwells I think are more centralised and everything has to come through head office, so contact their promotional guy at head office.

I should email then phone if you hear nothing. Don't quote hundreds of quid. Just be cheeky.

The above information is probably wrong so ignore. It's just Blackwells used to stock my magic wands around HP new book time. So I have a little knowledge which is of course quite a dangerous thing. Others will advise you better I'm sure.

EDIT: And you're in Canada where everything will be different anyway!

Ive always got the book launches via an agent.Mainly because they tend to run a launch in many shops, but preffer to pay for it, by one cheque. :)
