Billet Ideas

Postby sleightlycrazy » Oct 9th, '08, 06:23

Over the last couple months, my interest in billet work reignited (the first time around was very short and not deep at all*) and I've been rereading David Abbott and Teller's works as well as watching Zingg's dvds on switchwork. I thought it would be nice if people can share their thoughts and ideas on billet work here.

I wrote up a description of a routine I am working on in my initial post, which I decided to not put in a public forum as it would be exposure.

If you are interested, PM me with your email and I'll send you a word file of the whole description.

*no innuendo, please

Mind Index by Bill Cushman also has some interesting work in it that originally appeared on the Zingg DVDS

There's a nice chapter in Annemann's Practicle Mental Magic on billets that's well worth a look at.

Most of the key sources have been mentioned here; Switchcraft should be at the top of everyone's list along with the Zingg CD Collection. I'll add to this that Bob Cassidy has TONS of billet handling insights scattered about his various works as does Docc Hilford... in fact, Docc has a very decent video made years ago entitled Faster Than a Speeding Billet that has some fun stuff on it.

I would suggest that anyone getting into billets study two other key bits; firstly Millard Longman's Acidus Novus and Acidus Globus handlings in that these are standards within the world and the information you will get from this two CD set takes the idea light-years further than most may believe possible.

I have discovered that Bob Cassidy's long awaited Q&A Book is done and coming out late this month (officially). This is a collection of his previous contributions on the topic, much of which is not known to the general market (having been reserved for certain private groups).

Though this tome will repeat a large amount of what Bob has shared in the past re: the Q&A routine new commentary goes along with the old and thus, delivers a very "Encyclopedic" compendium. I doubt that the typical novice would find this compilation of much interest but for those curious about billet work and the Q&A in particular, this is going to be a new "Must Have" resource along side the John Riggs materials on the same.

Just thought you all might like to know

I second that!

Dale, Craig and Lenoir,

Thank you so much for recommending Switchcraft. I appreciate it very much.

Aside from all the good stuff already mentioned, I also highly recommend Barrie Richardson’s “Act Two”
