Can I busk here? Some responses.

With all the uncertainty of where is allowable to busk, I emailed some councils in Hertfordshire. The response was mixed, though not as bad as I expected.

First, I advised that I had checked and knew the regulations on obstruction, noise and working for donations, rather than ask for money. this was confirmed and accepted by some that answered.

For working in Town centres, I was advised in all but one instance to contact the Town Centre Manager. ( Now just googling that into specific towns I'm interested in.)

This may help those interested, as it gets direct to the person responsible for that area. Much easier than endless searching.

Some didn't allow busking, some also suggested contacting the local Police Authority. This I will be doing. It seems that they can issues a Pedlars Licence, which means you don't require a specific Street Traders Licence, even if the area normally requires one. I have got to check if a Pedlar would be considered having a charge for each item, rather than busking. It may be worth thinking about.

A couple of Town Centres have been helpful, going as far as suggesting I talk to them, as they can suggest areas that are better for busking.

I must admit this has taken some work, though I hope some may find it easier with the above information.

I feel it has been worth it, as it takes away any worries about being moved on, fined etc. I can then concentrate on selling and getting experience with entrtaining.

This could have been written for buskers: It's easier to get forgiveness than permission.
