reel magic vol 7

Postby daleshrimpton » Oct 15th, '08, 10:04

Once again, Kozmo and his team have put together a great edition of the dvd magazine Reel magic.
This, vol 7, has a remarkably high Englishness about it, as it contains many products, tricks, and interviews with some of Britain’s magic favourites.

Ive got to say that for me the new feature “ Move Monkeys” was just a tiny bit cringeworthy, because it reminds me of those oh so many how’s my pass? Videos we get plagued with on line.

Caught on Tape: Mac King
John Lovick has a hilarious conversation with the king of comedy magic, Mac King

As Always, Mac King gives great value for money, as he talks about his time growing ( or maybe that should be throwing) up with Lance Burton, and his visits to the old tom Mullica show, “Tomfoolery”

Simon Lovell Simon Said It!
Simon gives us a guided tour of the IBM/SAM Dealer room, with unexpected results .

this is great. If you have never seen a big convention, this will show you what they are like. Nice to see Terry Sebroke at the end, propping up the bar.

Garrett Thomas Try This At Home
a thorough explanation of Garrett's pen through coin switch

a really , really nice coin switch, that could be used for so many other things..

Jon Armstrong Small Things, Big Difference
never, ever say "pick a card"

I loved this, Its the best Article so far from Jon.
David Regal Tricks of the Trade
do-it-yourself the Regal way—how to build some gimmicks

Good honest reviews, as always. Some of these items are a total waste of money. And he more or less says so.
Wayne Kawamoto Choice Cuts

Wayne talks with Chris Priest about his latest DVDs

Its great to see Chris Priest waving the flag on this international product, though I didn’t agree with everything he said, but thats natural.
Still some solid info here
.

Bonus Tricks:

John Guastaferro "Constellation"
from Second Storm: The Close-up Magic of John Guastaferro, Volume 2, published by L&L Publishing

I might go to the trouble of practicing this, its lovely.
Alan Rorrison "Relentless"
from Fingers of Fury, Volume 1, published by Big Blind Media .

Not my kind of thing, but its interesting.
Craig Petty "Empowerment"
from Flipped Out: The Magic of Craig Petty, Volume 1 published by World Magic Shop

Craig, I know your going to read this.. so what can I say? It was great.I knew this was great before seeing it. Darren goes on about it all the time.
Move Monkeys:

Craig Petty "Flipper Muscle Pass"

nice.

Alex Giser "Modified AG Spread Production"

Nah, not my cup of tea. I shouted “Show us a trick “ at the television twice !!
Matt Richmond "Cascade Control".

Sickeningly good. Probably why I hate this section. It makes me feel way to old.

And that’s it. Once again, a great couple of hours spent watching this….. Roll on the next one!!

heres the scoop!

Postby kozmo » Oct 15th, '08, 13:56

I tell you I really like move monkeys....its not everyones cup of tea and I personally dont care for all kinds of moves...i have my 7 or 8 things and thats what I have made a living from for years BUT I really like the flow of the magazine and move monkeys helps and god knows theres a bunch of mive monkeys out there

We are trying to get away from a lot of commercials in the magazine. After the sankey issue I watched it and hated it! TOO MANY COMMERCIALS so we changed it...now much less of that and more room for content...and the more room for content allowed us to create the move monkey section and others that were currently working on to inhance your viewing pleasure :)

In the next few issues we will be adding several "new" columns to kick this thing up. We hope you like them and we appreciate that all of you are going on this journey with us and helping us create something special in magic.

Thanks
Koz

I really enjoyed this edition - especially Simon Said It. Absolute headcase.

There was real magic in the AG Spread - A King of Hearts changed to a King of Spades and back again in one move!!!!

Call me weird but I missed the commercials......

Ah, Simon Lovell. Mad as a box of frogs. In the immortal words of Arnold J. Rimmer...

He's out to lunch, breakfast, dinner, tea, supper, the lot. He's not in for a single meal if you ask me.

Yeah, Simon's always awesome in every issue I've seen so far, but especially this one.

The Jon Armstrong, Garrett Thomas, and David Regal sections are consistantly great, too. I haven't watched Move Monkeys, yet - I'm guessing they will also make me feel old.

Definitely one of my best magic purchases to date. Lots to learn from here. :D
