Websites & Google

Morning all

Can any of you help me please?? My website seems to have disappeared from google over the past week or so.. to the point where even if I type in my full name and the word magician and search it's not appearing in the listings??

I re submitted the site to google last week, and changed a few meta tags etc, plus added some new content to a couple of pages.. would this cause it to disappear? If not what do you think the solution is??

Any advice greatly appreciated.. it's driving me mad now!!

Thanks

Carl

I'm sure some more tech-headed folk will be able to give you a more in depth answer, but basically it seems like Google sometimes make small tweaks to how they find information and this can cause a bit of an upset with ranks of listings for a day or two (or even a couple of weeks) until things calm back down again. I gave up worrying about rank listings a long time ago. If i feel the need to be at the top of Google I pay for an ad, which may or may not be cheaper than employing a web specialist to try and force your page up the rankings or worse still spends countless frustrating hours attempting to do something about it yourself.

I've never "submitted" my site to Google? Google just seems to have found me. I'm usually somewhere around page 1 for the term "psychic entertainer". It is irksome that Jonathan Royle is at the top for that listing, however I have done some research and no-one ever types "psychic entertainer" into Google. Except for me when I'm checking I'm still there.

"Magician" or "corporate magician" however is a different matter. But as I say, perhaps it is cheaper in the long run (and less frustrating) to just pay for a google ad?

Hi Paul

It's not the being top of the search engine that's concerning me, it's not being found at all.

This came about last week when a lady who had seen me at a gig recently wanted to get in touch about a party she's having in December.

She typed my full name and the word magician into google and my website didn't come up?? I don't expect to be top when someone searches magician or even magician leicester but surely something as specific as my name and the word magician should get results?!

I've looked down the paying for adwords route, but not sure how much use it would be.. I personally never look at them when I search google!

Hi Carl. Just put Carl Buck magician into Google and highlighted the "UK only" button. Your site came up at number 3, with a couple of entries for you in a magician's directory coming in at number 1 & 2.

If you don't highlight the UK only button, then I couldn't see your site on the first page but you are easily found thanks to the magician's directory. Trouble is that with a term like "magician" and a name like "carl" and the whole world wide web to search from, it's not surprising that your site may get a bit lost.

But I wouldn't worry. UK only - you're there. Worldwide - you're still "findable".

Is it true that the more people who find a site via Google, the higher the ranking for that site? If so, can we all google as Paul suggests above and get Carl's site to a higher position?

And while you're at it, type in "psychic entertainer" and click on my site! Won't do me any good, but it would be nice to get to the top spot!
