I use my phone (a HTC TyTN II) with built in GPS to run Tom Tom.
Meaning I do not have to have this bulky satnav around, that I need to make sure is hidden or safe from being stolen.

The Tom Tom software has been fine, and not caused any problems yet.
Though I have been told there is a better satnav software out there (but cannot for the life of me think of what it is called.)

I have used it quite a few times, and sometimes it is scary how it can pinpoint down to the exact position of a house you are looking for.

My satnav can last a couple of hours on it's battery. Can't you put a lighter into your van? My car didn't have one either but Dave managed to wire one up for me.
