Halloween

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Oct 24th, '08, 14:56

Halloween's coming up, and does anyone know any good scary movies. I was hoping to watch a scary movie I haven't seen yet.

It can be an Omen or Rosemary's Baby like psychological thriller, or it can just be gory. I don't discriminate.

Thanks!

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Some good horror flicks, in no particular order...

1408
30 Days of Night
Blair Witch Project
Bram Stoker's Dracula
The Company of Wolves
Halloween
Hellraiser
Mirrors
The Shining

Also, a lot of Japanese horror flicks are worth watching. They know how to make terrifying films, that's for sure.

Bram Stoker's Dracula ? I thought that was shocking, in the wrong kind of way. and i dont think Oldmans spoken much about it since it was made.

Nice guy Gary Oldman. I just thought id mention that. :)

I know it got slated, but i do like will smiths Zombie apocalypse flick " I AM LEGEND". it made me jump a couple of times.

Shame about the ending though.

Carpenters version of the thing, is a nother good one. as is "It"

and any version of invasion of the body snatchers gets me. teh donald sutherland one, with the human faced dog ...

My own pet film on Halloween has to be rocky horror, or young frankenstien though.

I've seen "I am legend" I thought it was good.

Is "30 Days of Night" good? It didn't look great when I saw trailers.

Bram Stoker's Dracula may not have been entirely faithful to the book, and it makes me cringe to watch Keanu Reeves "act", but I do like the film in its own right. I didn't know Gary Oldman disliked it so much; personally, I think he's a great actor and did an admirable job as Dracula.

That's a bit like asking "is Marmite nice?" In my opinion, it's a good film. I enjoyed it. But I like horror films and vampire films so it would have to be pretty dire for me to dislike it.

I really didn't like 30 days of night, I quite like my horror films but didn't like that one at all. Same as Blair Witch, I didn't get that one either.

"My Little Eye" is one of my favourites, and manages to be both psychologically creepy and spectacularly gory (in parts).

For a bit of sick fun, try to get hold of an obscure thing called "Ready Teddy Death". Pure snuff movie, with teddy bears.

some great ones on here...

http://www.best-horror-movies.com/top-1 ... ovies.html

The classic Poltergist as an example, the bit with the clown doll always has me covering over the puppets in the corner.

I still jump a couple of times at Jaws.

just about anything with Vincent Price in is well worth a look. ( Dr Phibes being one of his best)

Shadow of the Vampire. this film depicts the goings on behind the classic movie Nosferatu, and supposes that the actor playing the count, was in fact the real thing. Its a brilliant story with an incredible performance by Willem Dafoe as the vampire , and John Malkovitch as the director.

If you have not seen this you must!

Blair Witch Project is the Marmite of horror films.

I saw bits of that it looked a bit twisted but I laughed so it can't be bad...right?

The ring movies...are....rather boring at parts. I watched both once and never care to see them again.

If you haven't seen 'The Mist' then do so!! A real quality horror film from the director of Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile.....

Surprised no ones's mentioned 'The Exorcist'. Some people find it laughable, but I wouldn't watch it on my own in the dark.... And 'The Exorcist III' is no picnic either..

The original black n white version of 'The Haunting' is another classic that you don't want to be left alone with. Creepy!!!

'The Wicker Man' - best horror film made in Britain!!

Original extended version of 'Salem's Lot' - responsible for countless sleepless nights for schoolkids in the 80's.

I agree with Dale on John Carpenter's 'The Thing'.... creepy and gory!!

I'm a big fan of slashers like the nightmare on Elm Streets, Friday the 13ths, the Evil Deads (although not strictly a slasher) Child's plays and also films that involve revenge of some sort, preferably bloody
